Am I a sociopath?

Death occurs daily. I am not necessarily moved by every death that occurs although I may utter a "shiot" at others because they are more tragic in my way of thinking. I have to agree with Vrai on this one though, the media is going overboard with it simply to raise their rating - they think everyone in the world wants to hear about it 24/7 and here it is 2 full days later. Now what other option do they have to fulfill their agenda, well they could bring back daily 10 minutes reports each broadcast of our military people getting killed in Iraq - and believe me they will do exactly that in a couple more days because the VT thing will no longer warrant the coverage. It's not that we are uncaring people, but some of us have become immune to mourning over every dealth in the world that happens every day unless it effects us personally.

Problem is the dude had two guns. He was shooting relentlessly. Any attempts to bring him down would be met with instant death.

I'd be the first person dead because I would try to bring him down. Now, if someone else had a gun in there... :jet:
And there is the point I have tried to make. The VT administration made the decision to overrule VA law about CCW. If only a few of the students and staff had been armed, this would have been stopped short. Yes, some would still have been killed and injured, but people have to have the means to protect themselves, especially in this day and age.

My opinion - situations like this are only going to happen until people are allowed to defend themselves.

This has an impact on any kid, high school or college, that is old enough to comprehend the situation. This could happen anywhere. This brings to light the question of how safe college campuses are.

There were what, 26 thousand people at that school? So they all were affected, as were there families.
26000 ... 0.5% with CCW (?) 130 armed citizens. I think they could have prevailed.

I feel it's a national tragedy that obviously touched the President deeply. I agree with flying the flags at half staff. Bush got it absolutely right this time.

I am not taking time to read if anyone responded to this but just how is this a tragedy of national proportions? I do not agree with the flag thing.

I do feel sorrow at what happened but I am tired of it being the only thing on the news. I choose not to watch the news right now, there is such a thing as overkill (no pun intended). We do not need every little analysis of why people THINK he did what he did. It's sensationalism at it's best.

It's better than Anna Nicole overkill, these were kids trying to make something of themselves. For months, they've been obsessing with Anna Nicole, who was just a self-centered, egotistical whore.

Forestool disagrees. He'll come tell us that guns create violence and banning them would end all violence.

I don't know how this guy was allowed to purchase a gun. The fact that he was stalking and these writings had been taken to VT and nothing was done about it is just sickening.

When every kid drops a class because of one student, come on.

And he blames rich kids, WTH? He's richer than I am being able to go to VT. It's not psycho, they're all excuses.

Are you real? Better than what? Who are you to call anyone names?

Would anyone have felt this was a national tragedy if it happened in Alabama or Wyoming? I doubt it. It was close to home.

Now why don't you scoot along like a good little tard and go watch MSNBC?

So basically, fear. While events like these are possible, fearing them is irrational because the probability is so infinitesimal.

Interesting thread, and I will finally respond to this post.

My daughter is a freshman, and lives on campus at a rather large university. When the news broke, I felt empathy for the parents. I worry about my child, and know I would be broken if anything like that happened to my baby.

She caught up with me on messenger earlier, and we chatted about VT. She says, "Mom? Am I a bad person for not feeling sad? I didn't know these people."

I assured her that did not make her a bad person.

She then told me she felt "desensitized". This is what the media is doing to many.

Please explain how this is a national event. WE are bombarded with this news because it is a nearby school. Local news is feeding on this story and feeding it to us. It is a horrible thing to happen, any unwarranted death is. As news, it affects this geographical area. How many colleges are in the U.S.?
If we lived with the fear, we would all become hermit cave dwellers.

So MSNBC's coverage is non-stop because it was local to them in Secaucus, NJ?

CNN in Atlanta was local?

What a stupid assessment to make. I haven't watched the local news simply beause all the local broadcasts suck.

I wasn't very shocked when it happened either. It amazed me, the lack of shock that is.

The storm left the coast, not many soldiers were killed, no tornados....what else do they have to grasp on to?

What is local in this day and age? It was a tragedy in Colorado just as it is in Virginia, it really doesn't matter.
