What is local in this day and age? It was a tragedy in Colorado just as it is in Virginia, it really doesn't matter.

:huggy: so many channels, so little time :jameo: Back to "Designed To Sell". Some of the homes are a national disgrace :drama:

So if your kids were the same age as these 31 kids that were murdered you might feel something in some capacity?

I doubt it, you can call them kids if you like but the fact is they were adults.

About the flags at Half mast. Now don't get me wrong, they should have been lowered for them, but what about the soliders overseas? We don't lower it for them.

Lowering of the flag to half mast is normally reserved for national mourning.

I really didn't feel like reading this whole thread...so did anyone mention that we fly flags on a staff. A mast is on a ship.

That's all I wanted to contribute tonight...carry on. :howdy:

Please explain how this is a national event. WE are bombarded with this news because it is a nearby school. Local news is feeding on this story and feeding it to us. It is a horrible thing to happen, any unwarranted death is. As news, it affects this geographical area. How many colleges are in the U.S.?
If we lived with the fear, we would all become hermit cave dwellers.

i didn't realize that columbine happened so close to us. if the shooting happened in california, it would still be all over the news. you're an idiot.

Naval shore commands refer to it as a mast, even though there is no ship. That's why they have yardarms also.

:yeahthat: It's due to their "sea" roots. In the Navy, it's half mast. Even on shore.

So Columbine wasn't a national tragedy? So MSNBC, CNN and FOX did not have wall to wall coverage of Columbine because it was in Colorado?

I'm a sociopath too. :howdy:

Yeah it's a crappy thing that happened, and I'd probably be more inclined to have some feeling about it if it weren't shoved down my throat every second of the day. It's incredibly irritating watching the media rehash the same thing over and over and put their idiotic spin on things. The whole finger pointing going on from "why weren't there better warnings such as sirens" "someone should have seen the signs and he should have been prevented from purchasing a firearm", "the school administration did not do enough to get the word out about what was happening" :blahblah: It's endless, and every politician and public figure feigning concern just makes me want to vomit.

I'll step off my soapbox and go mutilate some animals now. :yay:

True. :ohwell: I'm really trying to feel guilty, but I'm not. I think you and are sociopaths. :shocking: (truly)

Sociopathy is chiefly characterized by something wrong with the person's conscience. They either don't have one, it's full of holes like Swiss cheese, or they are somehow able to completely neutralize or negate any sense of conscience or future time perspective. Sociopaths only care about fulfilling their own needs and desires - selfishness and egocentricity to the extreme. Everything and everybody else is mentally twisted around in their minds as objects to be used in fulfilling their own needs and desires. They often believe they are doing something good for society, or at least nothing that bad. The term "sociopath" is frequently used by psychologists and sociologists alike in referring to persons whose unsocialized character is due primarily to parental failures (usually fatherlessness) rather than an inherent feature of temperament. Lykken (1995), for example, clearly distinguishes between the sociopath (who is socialized into becoming a psychopath) and a "true" psychopath (who is born that way). However, this may only describe the "common sociopath", as there are at least four (4) different subtypes -- common, alienated, aggressive, and dyssocial. Commons are characterized mostly by their lack of conscience; the alienated by their inability to love or be loved; aggressives by a consistent sadistic streak; and dyssocials by an ability to abide by gang rules, as long as those rules are the wrong rules. As Stout (2005) indicates, it only takes three of the following to be defined as a sociopath, and some common sociopathic traits include:

Good grief. :faint: Do you ever delete anything?

I've come to the conclusion that many occassions and personal actions of other's don't warrant me feeling guilty. :ohwell:
