Im sorry you disagree..but I still think its inconsiderate. In the restaurant I used to work at,if someone came in that late the cooks always microwaved thier food. Im not saying its right but thats what happens
Why advertise your hours if you don't want people to come?

I've never heard a GOOD waitress complain....they just say oh well and move on to the next table to try to make up for it.

Exactly.

There are so many people in the area who are in "hospitality" and have no idea what it is, or what they're doing. It's not "the service industry".

If you're a lousy server, you won't get a tip. If you're stellar, I'll leave too much. Hey, it's your livelihood. Why should I care if you don't?

Well, I must say that this thread has been enlightening. You do realize, when you CHOOSE to dine out at a restaurant, you are removing the responsibility of setting your own table, rolling your silver, making sure that your environment is presentable, your salt and pepper are there, the menu is selectable, you don't have to go to the fridge or get up and cook or refill your drink.. You don't have to pick up crapass cheerios off of the floor or clean your plates and make two or three desserts or two plus kinds of cocktails or coffees and have one person wait on you hand and foot for the low low price of $2.13 an hour... No cooking, no kitchen knowledge, no dishes.

Unless you're an azzhole, you should realize that most of the restaurant folks are just trying to get by for various reasons. And don't give me the blanket answer of "find another job or quit b!tching" or pull a master and servant routine when it comes to GRATUITY - it doesn't sit well.

:notworthy Well stated.

Also, if 'tips' are assumed to be part of the wait staff salary structure now, why not just raise the prices and eliminate the tip since apparently you aren't allowed to penalize shitty waitresses without them starting threads about it?

Then close earlier. Everyone in hospitality knows that there is the potential for a customer to walk in the door 5 minutes before you close. That's why the kitchen staff works beyond closing time. If that's not the way you're doing it, then your manager is a moron.

well I've seen a lot of "stellar" servers get a mediocre tip. I agree..if they are lousy-they get a lousy tip.

I waited so long for a server at Applebee's yesterday that I asked the hostess if I had been seated in the "self serve section".

...and when I was a waitress, I didn't get 15% from every customer. Get over your whiny ass, self absorbed self and do your job. And smile while you're at it.

It would seem that if you simply increased all of the prices to raise the minimum wage for servers, then EVERYONE would be paying for lousy service all the time. That is why tipping is the diner's choice. Good service should be rewarded, bad service should not, that's no excuse for taking advantage of someone who has to clean up your mess.

Its part of life in serving, not a thing that can be done about it, ya grin, bear it and move on.

just what exactly don't you understand??? shitty SERVERS(we are not waitresses) deserve shitty tips..but you don't get it...even if you are great some people still don't tip the proper amount!

right! if there was no tipping, what would be the incentive of giving good service?

Unless you work at one of the fairly upscale restaurants in the area, you are a waitress. You're slingin' hash.
