wait·ress ('trĭs)
n.
A woman who serves at a table, as in a restaurant.

I suppose your boyfriend is a sanitation engineer?

even if you are great some people still don't tip the proper amount!
So what? Life doesn't always go your way.

Just call me Flo. Mel where are my dayum grits?

It's interesting that you should bring that up. If diner waitresses made only 15-20%, they wouldn't be taking home much at the end of the day. Most diner customers drop 3-5 bucks on a tab that's less than 15.00.

Maybe she's at the Tides. No wonder she's getting stiffed. You saw the prices for the deconstructed food, didn't you?

Of course, it goes without saying that your restaurant owner makes you claim all your tips at the end of the night, right?

It really just depends. What is ordered, How many in the party and so on. That is why I don't work breakfast or lunch. Not enough money to be made.

Then close earlier. Everyone in hospitality knows that there is the potential for a customer to walk in the door 5 minutes before you close. That's why the kitchen staff works beyond closing time. If that's not the way you're doing it, then your manager is a moron.
close earlier? thats stupid. then they would just come 5 mins prior to the new closing time... :loser:

I have not read the entire thread, but I tip accordingly. I did not know the standard had changed to a min of 20%...

I missed that memo...

Actually it does not work that way anymore. It's a % of your gross sales for the evening. So you could be taxed on more than what you earned or less.

I'm a great tipper. When the restauranters started pushing the 20% policy I moved up with them. But when I hear someone like you whine I just think of the shitty service I usually get when I dine out in this area.

Outback is the worst.

and most of the time the tips you claim eat up what little hourly pay you get.

If you do not want to serve people who come in at 9:55 when your advertised closing time is 10:00, advertise your closing time as 9:30. If someone comes in at 9:25 you are 35 minutes ahead of the game.

The only time a gratuity is added on a check would be for a special event. We do allot of group parties for little league ball and 17 % is added.
