Best reason for the holiday season

But those that celebrate for reason other than the birth of the Christ child are not celebrating Christmas and not even a Holiday since Holiday is a contraction of Holy Day.

They may be participating in Saturnalia which was the Roman festival at this time of year or something else, but they are not celebrating Christmas or Christ's Mass.

there you have it ladies and gentlemen, 2ndA telling you you are not celebrating christmas, even though you have been all you life.....

I know i never had a saturnalia tree when i was growing up, any of you?

Seriously 2A, how many "Christians" go into debt buying presents this time of year? How many eat too much? How many drink too much? How many worry about their lights, and decorations, and what the neighbors say? It seems to me as if they aren't really celebrating Christmas either and have blurred the lines of intent between celebrating Christ and "celebrating". Again, that's why I think that more people should be aware that all the "festivities" aren't Christian in origin.

better watch out mig .... If your arguement gets too logical 2A will put you on ignore and go play by himself.

Nonsense. He understands what I am saying, and I am no where degrading nor insulting any religion, unlike some of you.

id say your assertion that the celebration of christimas has pagan origins is equally offensive as my point that morals predated religion (read not at all)

but you can play with 2ndA just as long as he lets ya

pfft .... I can't think of anything I've ever said as insulting as 'you will spend eternity in hell because you don't believe what I do'.

whatever though.

You rightly quote the word Christians.

Yes, far too many people including Christians go into debt buying presents. Indigestion is prevalent this time of year even among Christians. Drunkenness is also found among Christians; while dissipation is a sin, the drinking is not and Ecclesiastes even says there is a time for everything in its season, and no, I am not advocating drunkenness. Decorating and worrying about what the neighbors say is also part of the distraction from the true meaning of Christmas. Hey. I bet there are many sins committed by all people including Christians this time of year.

Do people celebrate during this time of year? Yep. Do they go overboard? Yep. Do they miss the true meaning of Christmas? Yep. There may be all sorts of celebrating and partying and many may say they are celebrating Christmas. But is there Christmas without Christ? No.

I wish that the Emperor of Rome had not declared Christianity as the official religion of the Roman Empire. Christianity was perverted badly when it happened including celebrating Christmas during the time of Saturnalia. More perversions of Christmas have happened over the centuries as more cultures incorporated their winter solstice celebrations into Christmas as Christianity spread.

My point is that Christmas is only Christmas, no matter what time of year it is celebrated, because of the birth of Christ.

I agree with your sentiment - I would never say that to someone. However, it's just as insulting to say "you don't really have a soul, it's made up and you're just going to me worm food"

In other words, no one wants to hear that the other side thinks something about oneself that one doesn't believe about themselves.

An atheist should not care about hell anymore than a theist should care about maggots. Both do.

Okay, thanks for that input. Cause it honestly bothers me. :huggy:

I don't worship a tree or lights or glass balls or garland or a manger scene or presents or food or drink or anything else except Christ even though all those other things are part of my Christmas. Every thing except Jesus is peripheral to Christmas for me. Jesus is at the center. He is the reason for the season.

Have a great Christmas. :huggy:

do you really want us to entertain that nonsense???? Come on, atheists, theists, religionist.... non-religionists - - you can do better with the questions.

Of course! I'm just trying to find one that theist will actually answer - it's usually an exercise in futility :howdy:

I gave you an answer. You chose to ignore it. That's OK. I find you mostly ignorable, better than the other two detractors of faith that have been recently active, but largely not remarkable in presentation of argument.

.....said the biggest tapdancer here. I laughed :lmao:
Ah. More name calling from the atheist. You should look with introspection at your own questions.

I have never tap danced. I refuse to go round and round the endless circles you have pursued in the past. When you ask a straight question, if I have an answer, I have given it to you. What you do with it is up to you.

No need really; I know exactly what I'm asking. You certainly don't have to answer either, and that would be much better than someone muddying up the conversation with tap dancing and skirting. If you ever feel like you don't want to answer something I ask, please ignore me and just move on. See how that works? :howdy:

the only problem is that when arguing with you, straight logic is met with unending circular reasoning.

You give answers, but nothing backs them up (save your bible which according to you is right because it's right) (which really isn't much of an arguement at all).

X, don't even bother. Logic flies in the face of their worldview and intellectual dishonesty is the only way out. It is what it is.
