US Reaches Deal with Iran to Free Imprisoned Americans

World, Iran, Middle East, Foreign Affairs, Prisoner Exchange, Oil, Iran Sanctions

AllSides Summary

The United States and Iran reached a deal where Iran agreed to release five Americans detained in Iran in exchange for the release of several detained Iranians and the unfreezing of $6 billion in Iranian oil revenue.

Details: The deal comes after two years of negotiations. The five imprisoned Americans are being moved into house arrest in a hotel in Tehran. According to the stipulations of the deal, they will be allowed to leave once the frozen funds are released, which is expected to take a few weeks. The $6 billion will be stored in an account controlled by Qatar and is only allowed to be used for “humanitarian purposes,” such as food and medicine. The Iranian prisoners set to be released by the U.S. have been imprisoned for violating Iranian sanctions.

Key Quotes: National Security Council spokeswoman Adrienne Watson said, “We have received confirmation that Iran has released from prison five Americans who were unjustly detained.” Watson added, “Negotiations for their eventual release remain ongoing and are delicate.” The New York Times (Lean Left bias) quoted Ali Vaez, the Iran director for the International Crisis Group, stating, “All Iran can do under this deal is submit orders to a bank in Doha for food and medicine and a limited number of medical equipment that do not have dual military use.”

How the Media Covered It: Fox News’ (Right bias) coverage did not note the “humanitarian” stipulations on the released funds.

They'll spend $44 million before anyone even picks up a shovel.

It is kind of small change considering that in 2021, part of the Democrat’s spending bill was to put $3 billion toward “tree equity,” as white folks in the suburbs have a lot of trees to shade them from climate change, whereas blacks living in the cities do not and thus suffer higher temperatures. Vice President Kamala Harris, the scientist of the Biden administration, interrupted a NASA presentation to ask if NASA "can measure trees" as part of "environmental justice."

Beach bumming in ‘Bidenomics’: Will Hawaii wildfires become president’s Katrina moment?

You might be tempted to dismiss President Biden’s latest press mishap as just another desperation story in the dog days of summer. But the story is actually a perfect encapsulation of his presidency.

Reporters gathered outside his palatial beach house in Delaware to ask Mr. Biden if he had anything to say about the rising death toll from wildfires in Hawaii. At deadline, 96 people are dead.

Staring somewhat blankly, Mr. Biden responded: “No. No comment.”

Then he grinned and climbed into the back seat of his Secret Service Suburban.

Biden uses his creepy whisper to claim his signature climate and tax law IS working - as his poor handling of deadly Maui wildfires overshadows anniversary

  • Biden marked one-year anniversary of Inflation Reduction Act
  • 'I'm not here to declare victory on the economy,' he said
  • Biden got in his signature whisper and even a reference to ice cream

President Joe Biden used his infamous whisper to declare his Inflation Reduction Act 'is working' but his one-year anniversary celebration has been overshadowed by his own handling of the Hawaii wildfires, Donald Trump's latest indictment and the absence of Senator Joe Manchin.

In a packed event in the East Room at the White House, Biden claimed his law increased the number of jobs, decreased the inflation rate, and cut the deficit. He even got in an ice cream reference.

'I'm not here to declare victory on the economy,' he said. 'We have more work to do.'

'No Empathy' Biden Strikes Again on Maui

Joe Biden justifiably was blasted for his callous "no comment" when asked about the rising death toll in the Maui wildfire on Sunday. Then Biden finally spoke publicly for the first time on Tuesday about the fire, saying that he intended to go to Hawaii. But then he couldn't seem to get the affected area straight, seemingly forgetting that it was Maui. That also doesn't help people think that he's focused or cares about what's going on.

You would think perhaps he'd learned his lesson. But this is Joe Biden, who keeps repeating the same false stories over and over again. It doesn't seem like he knows how to adjust his bad behavior.

Biden was asked on Thursday about his upcoming trip to Hawaii which his administration has announced will be Monday., seemingly after more vacation in Lake Tahoe. "Can you tell us about your Hawaii trip, sir?" he was asked by a reporter.

Now, again, how complicated is a response to that simple question? "We're going to do all we can to help the people, thank you" would have been a simple response. But again, he couldn't or wouldn't do it.

Shouting Biden: ‘Name me a single objective we’ve ever set out to accomplish that we’ve failed on!’

That same report showed a 0.2% increase in the price of consumer goods from June. Harris either outright fibbed or failed to do her homework before making her statement.

The list of failed objectives for Biden is long. Those include the disastrous handling of the southern border and illegal immigration.

Democrats are demanding to know why Texas officials were separating families at the US-Mexico border ostensibly under orders from the Biden administration. It is a touchy subject that Democrats had accused former President Trump of doing.

When Biden wrapped up his speech on Wednesday, he proclaimed that America is “still the beacon to the world,” claiming our best days are still ahead of us.

“This isn’t about the past. It’s about the future we’re going to build. And I’ve never been more optimistic about America’s future,” the president declared.

Biden’s speech follows another one given on Tuesday in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he told a slew of whoppers, resulting in CNN calling him out for it.

Once again, the speech was focused on the economy and the Inflation Reduction Act. Biden just couldn’t resist straying from the truth.

He once again told a lie about his infamous Amtrak story.

CNN spanked him twice on his retelling of that fairytale: “Biden’s story is false in two ways. First, as CNN and others have pointed out before, he could not possibly have had this exchange with Negri: Biden did not reach the million-miles-flown mark as vice president until September 2015, according to his own past comments, but Negri had died more than a year earlier, in May 2014. Second, as CNN has also noted before, Biden’s mother was not sick at his home at the time he hit the million-miles-flown milestone. In fact, she had died more than five years prior.”

Then he repeated the falsehood about his grandfather, who had worked as an oil company executive, claiming he died just days before he was born himself in the same hospital. His grandfather died over a year before Biden was born.

When my wife comes home from grocery shopping complaining about the prices, I tell her she is obviously mistaken. Bidenomics is working, and she needs to educate herself.

NBC Today was talking about a historic summitt this weekend at Camp David. Their reporter was just so happy to talk about it.

Why is everything these people do historic .?
