As I've said, I do stay in the right lane unless I'm getting ready to make a left turn ONLY because I hate when strangers ride my ass. BUT, I should not have to.

You do have to in countries where people are properly trained to drive..and drive fast. Like Germany, for example. To drive like people do in Maryland would be literally a death-sentence on the autobahn.

Having spent enough years working and driving in Germany, and having been taught in Driver's Ed back in the early 70s that the right lane is for driving in and the left lane for passing and overtaking, I never cease to be amazed at the idiots that will pass on the right....or "camp out" in the left lane.

Nope.

If there is plenty of room to get out of the way, let the lead foots go. Heck, let one in front of you and speed up and let him get the ticket while you make time.

Or just get out of the way. Let them go.

We have this infantile desire to control one another. "I am going the speed limit! They should NOT be in a hurry!"

Let them go. You can relax and and they are gone.

It's a control thing.

That's what I thought until I met my wife. In 90% of cases it's an oblivion thing. They just tool along, not noticing their speed or traffic around them. They do what I call "pacing." They just match the speed of the car next to them. If you try to pass one of them, they inevitably speed up to pace you.

Maybe that's what it is. I earned my license in MD, then learned how to drive in Europe. In some countries it is a (to steal O'Malleys rationale on another topic) safety issue and a $500 fine to obstruct the fast lane.
I drive the highways regularly at 65 mph or what I consider safe speed. The catch is: I always return to the right lane. If somebody wants to go faster - so be it - it's none of my business. It is also called courtesy.

Cant wait for my ticket. To have a judge tell me that its perfectly acceptable to go 80 in a 55 and not worry about a ticket? Pretty sure he will give that promise to me in writing so I dont have issues.

but until then.

Lets take 32 between 29 and the merge onto 97 (I drive this every day)
speed limit? 55.
Me? 60, Cruise control, left lane.
Why? because there are a ton of on ramps that enter from the right, and for some reason, people have no clue how to use a merge lane, either they pull in front going 20mph and wait for you to skid to a stop behind them, or the pace you like you are supposed to do something to make the room for them instead of them speeding up or slowing down.

Do I piss people off in the left? yep
do I care? Hell no.

Like I said, I want the ticket.

Define "slower"- here in Solomons area where the right lane ends on the North end of the bridge, 60 is apparently not fast enough for some of these arrogant young pups who think that left lane is meant just for them. I dont and wont move either, ticket or not.

You're so cool!

Definitely been behind someone doing 35mph on route 5 where the speed limit is 50. That should be illegal.

35 in a 50 might be illegal,
however the rules do state that going under the limit is legal if conditions call for it. The woman in question was within her rights to go a few under the limit considering the 40mph wind gusts.

§ 21-804. Minimum speed regulation.

(a) Slow speed impeding traffic prohibited.- Unless reduced speed is necessary for the safe operation of the vehicle or otherwise is in compliance with law, a person may not willfully drive a motor vehicle at such a slow speed as to impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic.

(b) Establishment of minimum speed limits by State or local authorities.-

(1) If, on the basis of an engineering and traffic investigation, the State Highway Administration or a local authority determines that slow speeds on any part of a highway in its jurisdiction impede the normal and reasonable movement of traffic, the State Highway Administration or the local authority may establish a minimum speed limit for that part of the highway.

(2) Unless reduced speed is necessary for the safe operation of the vehicle or otherwise is in compliance with law, a person may not drive a vehicle below a minimum speed limit established under this subsection.

(3) A minimum speed limit established under this subsection is effective when posted on appropriate signs giving notice of the limit.

(c) Class A (passenger) or Class M (multipurpose) vehicle.- A person may not drive a class A (passenger) or class M (multipurpose) vehicle on a highway if the maximum speed capability of the vehicle does not exceed the posted maximum speed limit for the highway by at least 5 miles per hour.
Since the speed limit is set, or is supposed to be set by the 80% rule, it would seem pretty clear that the limit was set at a point considered normal and reasonable.
It would then stand to reason that in order to impede the normal and reasonable flow of traffic, you would have to be driving under the limit when road and weather conditions were perfect.

I do think I remember seeing somewhere that the slowest you could legally drive was 15 under the limit except in certain conditions like snow and ice.

Heres a novel idea for you sockgirl. Get your slow!@#$ the hell out of the road and simply move over to the right lane. What is wrong with you? Is it too much inconvenience to move your van to the right? If your worried about your kids then get to the right before you get rear ended by a semi truck. I swear I have dreams about simply pit manueving losers like you and send you careening into the woods like a cue ball off my Humvees bumper. But then again, I havent taken my medication today yet. In all seriousness, just move over and stop being an inconsiderate ass.

I crept down Route 5 a month ago when it was snowing in the evening and the roads had not been touched yet. I had some tailgate me from WaWa to Redgate, even going through Leonardtown because he/she could not get around me due to a car next to me creeping along too. The roads were horrible and I stayed well under the speed limit. Sorry, but I'm not wrecking because you choose to risk doing so. I never drive that slow but the roads were absolutely horrible.

Ever wonder why you can pull on the left control stalk and you high beams come on?

In 90% of the civilized world it allows a fast vehicle overtaking a slower one to make sure the slow vehicle is aware of his presence so they can move out of the way.
It's not a challenge
It in no way affects your life if you change lanes and let the faster car go buy.

So why not get over?

another cool idea.
first are you driving a semi? no? then suck it up buttercup and accept the speed limit.
You could manage to leave earlier to get where you are going, that might work.
but in the meantime, I have to tell you, I drive an 8000 lb truck. My bumper weighs more than most cars, and sits about window height to most cars.
If you want my bumper wrapped around your face like a set of poorly fitting braces, ram me.
Really, I need the money.

It's a control thing.

Yup.

When I'm not visualizing actually using my Illudium Q-36 Explosive Space Modulator on the offender dawdling in front of me, I reign myself in and try to imagine how sad their life must be that this, holding up traffic, is probably the highlight of their day.

It makes me and baby Jesus sad.
