BREAKING NEWS: Mt. Hood Search Ends

a lot of people do not have $600 to blow. when you go out when it's snowing, do you carry everything you would need in case an unexpected event happens? It's easy for everyone to say the woulda coulda shouldas, but until you're in that position, you don't know.
I'll bet if you could ask them now they would say it wouldn't have been "blown". $600 is a small chunk of change compared to the rest of the gear mountain climbers require. And, yes, when I travel whether it be in the snow, the desert or on the water I make sure I have all the proper equipment. I let people know where I am going and when I expect to be back.

Did anybody really know these 3 men that died on the mountain to know what they were like? Probably not and they are being judged and criticized by others for taking a risk in life, not loving their family, etc. We all have our own opinions on the matter, but instead of being so critical just accept the fact that whether right or wrong – it was their choice.

Yes, they caused pain to their family and risked the lives of others who had to search for them. But I guess if we think like the ones that are so critical - we should all be inhuman and let people stay out there to die without any help because they did something risky and stupid?

Oh yeah good point. Take enough for 20 days for a 5-hour thrill? Yeah good point. Sorry they didn't do that.
So, oh, wise one, can you tell us what the autoposy results were from the hiker they found, i.e., cause of death?

They were not up there by accident. If you choose to do something for sport, invest in the right equipment. if you can't afford it, take up knitting until you can.

But knitting means you have to use big needles!!!!!

You can get an ACR 2766.6 Miniature Personal EPIRB for $136. It weighs less than 8 ounces, so it's not like it's going to slow you down. The bottom line is that these guys did not take appropriate measures to ensure that they could survive in an extreme environment, and they paid the price.

Right, and even if they didn't survive, because of a fall for example, they wouldn't have endangered the rescue climbers, the pilots and the search would have been over much sooner.

what should surfers wear when they're out surfing? what should a skydiver wear when jumping out of a plane? parachutes malfunction. you don't even know what equipment these hikers had.

I was thinking about chicken for lunch, then I thought, "that could be risky....choke on a bone, semonila, morbid obesity..."

So I decided to play it safe and climb a mountain in a snow storm instead...
See redskinmama, you saved another life! :huggy: you should be proud.

you were hoping they would find them? it really sounds like it. According to a lot of people in here, it sounds like they would rather have a couple of their tax dollars in their pockets than try and rescue a life.

Let me set up a what if: you're walking in the woods and you fall down a hill where you are now trapped. Your family is worried and a rescue crew is sent out. They look for days to no avail. how would you feel? say you get rescued and hop onto somd.com to catch back up on your posts and you read people saying that you were stupid and you didn't belong there, and you're selfish for ever taking that walk in the first place.
And when a drunk driver hits you, I will make sure to note what a hero you were for driving

that's the point genius, no one knows. so we shouldn't say what they had and what they didn't
At a news conference, Bernard pointed to an orange, handwritten note the climbers left at a ranger station before they started their climb last week.

It said the climbers took gear such as food, fuel, bivvy sacks, a shovel and ropes, all of which could be helpful as the three hunkered down in the storms.

I think they lost when two of them decided to leave the one injured hiker looking for help, as was communicated by cell phone to family members.
