one has nothing to do with each other. Yes you are going to die. It happens to everyone. But i am not going to run out and play chicken with an oncoming train. Just because I was bored that day.

There's a ####ING DIFFERENCE between climbing a mountain on an average day and jumping in front of a train.

I never said I thought it was a wise move (I wouldn't do it myself) but they do have a right to do this kind of thing. That's the great thing about America.

Noone said they didn't have the right. Everyone said it was stupid.
You are the one running around saying we are all wrong, and don't know what we are talking about.

They looked for a thrill and found one. How is that different then playing chicken with a train, it's a thrill and a risk. Which is what they did.

Please explain then if this doesn't work for an example, how does 9-11 work?

And unless you talked to those families. Which you probably did since you seem to be first on the action with ALL news stories. You tell me did the familes have a problem with them going? did they kiss their familes goodbye? Did the wives protest because there was a big storm. You don't know.

You're talking like they DESERVED to die... First of all, I never called them heroes. Second, I don't condone climbing up a mountain. But if that floats their boat, ok.

Let them live their lives... Would you rather save someone stranded on a mountain or try to save the life of a serial rapist?

And yet just above you tried to draw a parallel between climbing a mountain and living in tornado ravaged LaPlata.

do you think surfers are selfish as well for going out where they know sharks are? EVERYTHING IN LIFE IS A RISK. that's what makes life worth living. You risk getting married, having children, driving to work everyday. some choose to live with these risks, others strive to push the envelope and explore risks that people like you are not willing to take. It's a good thing Abe Lincoln risked abolishing slavery, it's a good thing columbus risked looking for unchartered territory. When it snows, do you risk leaving your house knowing that everyone in st. mary's drives like an ass when an inch of snow is on the ground?

I am not saying they shouldn't have been rescued. Go look, I was hoping they would find them.

and no, I think all rapist should die. You are picking apples then grapes then oranges. Stick with one topic and fight it. Dont try for three.

you can't make this a valid point. Just like you can't compare this with 9-11.

And unless you can come up with a valid point as into why it's such a GREAT idea to go climb a mountain in the middle of winter.....I will agree with you, but until then...

those men did not jump in front of a train playing chicken. They did what they loved. So you comparing that to this tragedy is absurd

Oh my! You are so right..what ever was I thinking.

Getting married is just like climbing a mountain in the middle of winter.

Thank you so much for comparing these things, now i can save myself before it's too late!!

They could have made it a lot easier to find them if they got lost or stranded by carrying an epirb beacon available for under $600. Then they'd probably be alive, thousands of dollars would have been saved and their families wouldn't be mourning. To participate in high risk activities is all well and good, but taking a few precautions against the unexpected is a damn good idea and the responsible thing to do.

you were hoping they would find them? it really sounds like it. According to a lot of people in here, it sounds like they would rather have a couple of their tax dollars in their pockets than try and rescue a life.

Let me set up a what if: you're walking in the woods and you fall down a hill where you are now trapped. Your family is worried and a rescue crew is sent out. They look for days to no avail. how would you feel? say you get rescued and hop onto somd.com to catch back up on your posts and you read people saying that you were stupid and you didn't belong there, and you're selfish for ever taking that walk in the first place.

I was thinking about chicken for lunch, then I thought, "that could be risky....choke on a bone, semonila, morbid obesity..."

So I decided to play it safe and climb a mountain in a snow storm instead...

a lot of people do not have $600 to blow. when you go out when it's snowing, do you carry everything you would need in case an unexpected event happens? It's easy for everyone to say the woulda coulda shouldas, but until you're in that position, you don't know.

there is no saving you....sit on your couch, watch tv, get fat (or fatter?) and live your life in peace.

Walking in the woods is not equivalent to climbing a friggin mountain in a snow storm.

They were not up there by accident. If you choose to do something for sport, invest in the right equipment. if you can't afford it, take up knitting until you can.

Oh yeah good point. Take enough for 20 days for a 5-hour thrill? Yeah good point. Sorry they didn't do that.
