And maybe we should let you jump off a bridge. wouldn't that be fun??

One has nothing to do with the other. There are every day dangers. Then there are dangers that you put yourself in. climbing a mountain in the middle of a freaking snow storm, is a danger that could have been avoided.

I'd rather die doing what I love... That's just me I guess. I guess if it were up to you it would be all work no play?

What about the 9/11 first responders that died? What about the firemen that risked their lives (some were doing that for a thrill)? What about a hokey player that gets critically injured on the ice?

No one is saying people should not take risks if that's what they truly want to do, but they should not expect others to put themselves at risk trying to save your butt.

There is no comparison.

What about a hokey player that gets critically injured on the ice?

If you can't put your left foot in and take your left foot out without injury, you should not play.

It can't be possible that you are comparing 911 responders to assjacks that go on a joy climb in a snow storm :buttkick: .

I am so mad that i got in on this post so late. I can not believe what i'm reading on here. How anyone can say that they were stupid for going out and taking advantage of what life has to offer is beyond me. Not to mention saying that they don't care about their families if they would do this. You have NO IDEA what precautions these men may or may not have taken. Granted, they didn't take survival equipment. What if they went on the internet and checked the weather and it called for an easy day on the mountain? These men were experienced enough to feel that they could make it out there, and that equates to them not loving their families? Bad girl, you've been skydiving? well how dare you put yourself at risk. do you not love your family enough to stay on the ground? were you that selfish for a thrill that you did not think about your loved ones? This thread makes me sick....you know what? Everyone, lets get together and sit in front of the tv watching everyone else live their lives to keep from obstructing ours. that sounds like a great idea.

Don't get me wrong - I appreciate what EVERY first responder does, no matter what their motivation might be. But if you get to know enough firefighters, you will find some that aren't being altruistic heroes all the time. They are after the adrenaline rush, and if they can help people at the same time that's just a great bonus.

you have got to be kidding me. I pray for you and your family that nothing ever happens to them that would be considered "risky". I pray that one day when your son/daughter/whatever goes ice skating on a lake and falls through, that someone does not have your mentality and steps in. I pray that every risk you ever take works out well, because if not karma will come back to you. I can not fathom how people can be so heartless. Do you think the people that work at rescue squads joined to sit around with their thumbs up their asses? They choose to take risks every time they show up for work. Thank the lord for them, because if something ever happened to me, i would hope you weren't on the receiving end

What these right wing nutjobs (mv_princess, badgirl, BS_Gal) are saying is that nobody should have a hobby and that all we should ever do is sit in front of a computer on Forums.SOMD.com and argue about this everyday instead of getting out every once in a while and having a little bit of fun.

What we should be doing in their eyes is wasting our taxpayer dollars on a dangerous war and send people over to Baghdad to get shot at. Our taxpayer dollars sure are going to use there...

They're saying that we should use taxpayer dollars to fly criminals like John Mark Karr into the United States so he can endanger our kids instead of being locked up in a foriegn prison.

They're saying we should use our taxpayer dollars for 5 year construction projects in Waldorf that leads to only 1 road you can drive in in Charles County.

They're saying sending people over to Iraq to get shot is far better than saving an American life.

We do things everyday, not because they are easy, but because they are hard and a challenge is what drives many people in this world. I could climb Mt.Everest if there was a road to the top and it wasn't snowing. But then what fun would that be? Everyone could do it. That's why we climb mountains in blinding snow storms, because no one else can do it. That's why some become fighter pilots and racecar drivers and triatheletes. We push our bodies to extremes doing all these things because its hard and its a challenge.

No one is saying that. But what I am saying is that maybe you should think about other people in your life first. Kids/wife/family.

I know someone like you wouldn't understand. It is easier to say "Oh they are heros" They were stupid, not because they did something they enjoy. But because they picked a horrible time to go do it. Who goes moutain climbing in the middle of a snow storm???? Even the biggest thrill climbers think it was stupid.

But please let's go to Denver and go swimming, because wow I should just live on the edge, who cares if I leave my family behind.

And that's why I appreciate what they do. I have absolutely no problem with their decision to get their adrenaline rush in that manner. But you have to wonder if their families appreciate them running into burning buildings. That's one of the points that keeps popping up in this thread, is that we should all minimize our risk so as to go home and take care of our families.

Again, I'm just doing the devil's advocate thing today. Forgive me, I'm bored at work.

OK, they're kids, family members didn't have a problem with it.

You choose to live in Southern Maryland even though there was a horrendous tornado here in 2002. If you're house is blown away by a tornado and the only thing keeping you alive is a few screws on the upstairs closet, we should not rescue you because you chose to move here after the 2002 disaster.

you can't make this a valid point. Just like you can't compare this with 9-11.

one has nothing to do with each other. Yes you are going to die. It happens to everyone. But i am not going to run out and play chicken with an oncoming train. Just because I was bored that day.

And unless you talked to those families. Which you probably did since you seem to be first on the action with ALL news stories. You tell me did the familes have a problem with them going? did they kiss their familes goodbye? Did the wives protest because there was a big storm. You don't know.

And unless you can come up with a valid point as into why it's such a GREAT idea to go climb a mountain in the middle of winter.....I will agree with you, but until then...
