Buell opinions?

Mmmm...that's not the same as BMW (or not the same as mine anyway). On mine, the pedal operates the rear (nice for dirt riding). The front splits between the front and rear. There is no different set of calipers.

By 'same', I meant that there was linkage between the front and back on one control. Completely opposite from BMW as to which control does what.

My Goldie has 2 rotors and 2 sets of calipers in the front, one in back. Hand control works one set of front calipers, pedal works the other in conjunction with the rear calipers.

Yup.

I asked what happens when you lose it and he said "We give you and extra". I should have asked him what happens when you lose THAT one or it breaks or just fails.

Probably similar to BMW...if I lose my key, I have to get a new one from the dealer and they have to program the bike to accept it. The bike can accept up to 10 different keys. If you lose more than that, you have to have the computer replaced!

Older RT's both foot and hand were linked, either one operated both the front and rear brakes. Made the slow parking lot maneuvers REAL difficult.. and many a dropped RT in Parking Lots and MSF courses.

2002, the RT had linked foot and hand, the RS had partial linked: Hand operated both, foot operated only the rear (much better design).
Now the RT's (and I think all BMW with linked brakes) have the hand linked and the foot only to the rear.

Lot of discussion concerning what does what, but in the end most agree.. Emergency braking, go for the hand brake and the linked system. The computer is going to do a much better job of getting you stopped then you ever will.

What happens when you are on the road and lose your key?? Or break it opening a can of paint, or trying to open can of soup?

I'd rather have a rain jacket that goes over my riding gear than a waterproof liner. The liners are a bit of a pain and the one that I had in my old Joe Rocket jacket didn't breathe at all.

:yeahthat:

Waterproof liner you still have 30 pounds of wet jacket, and in the summer it's like wearing a parka.

Larry,

I don't see any venting on that jacket.. it looks like it would get REAL hot in the summer.

EDIT: I see they do talk about venting, but it still looks like a HOT jacket.

No ABS, brand new. Not sure I like the fob business where you need to have it for the key/ignition to work. WTF happens if you lose the stupid thing, break it or it just plain fails? :walking:

I wouldnt sweat the "just plain fail" thing. These things have been arounnd a while now, almost every Dodge and Ford made since 2003 has had one in the key. Its solid state stuff, no moving parts.

Loosing, thats up to you:)

Waterproof zippered chest vents combine with sleeve vents, rear exhaust vents and the Pipeline Ventilation System to provide flow-through ventilation

But yeah, even in my Stealth suit (which is a lot of mesh), I still get hot.

How we liking an 09 Concours, sitting in the showroom, $11,000?

Sat on a 650 Vstrom. I can see that. No frills.
A Honda NT700V. Cheapest luggage imagineable. I do like the bike, however.
Even looked at a 08 KLR 650. 7000 miles, $4k

The Concours is great if you want to ride to Denver for lunch.
Add a set of Givi luggage to the Wee Strom and the prices are about equal with the NT700v.
The KLR 650 is something of a cult bike, plenty of aftermarket support and forums for sharing info.

The KLR seems to be awful light for the highway and maybe not enough giddyap? I suspect it won't do for me. I mean, single cylinder, carb bike, 260 pounds of fat man...

The Vstrom is about a 100 lighter than the Honda. The v twins sound like spare torque won't be much of an issue.

So much for the Buell.

Road the 'busa today, first time out since I got my license. Made 3 trips around town so far, in to Fredneck for lunch, etc, and...man.

I was nervous when I got on and the first couple miles but, this thing is soooooo smoooth!!!

I thought it would try to kill me, like the YZ does, but, nope. Does exactly what you tell it to do.

I thought I would hate the body position. Hell, it's basically comfortable and, at speed, the wind takes all the downward pressure off your arms.

It's stable, it's predictable, it's smooth, love it!
