No, I am sure they don't choose to be, but if they set their mind right, they could change it..

If you really truly believe that then I can't fault you for that.

It's not as easy as waking up one day and saying: "I hate being poor. I'm gonna get that uppity job and change my life dammit..."

it takes all of three seconds to load in a shell and rack the slide...

I'm no expert on guns & gun laws, so I'm sure 10 people are about to correct me - Doesn't the ammo have to be in a different place within the vehicle than the gun? Such as, ammo up front and gun in the trunk? That's gonna take more than 3 seconds.

There you go, applying rational thought again. You are supposed to just throw out random "facts" without ever considering reality!

Not sure if I'm reading that chart correctly but...

Less than 5 percent 5,400 32.8 33,400 5.2

That's per 1000 students.

50 percent or more 10,900 42.7 159,100 9.4

That's also per 1000 students.

For such a jump from less than 5% to 50% doesn't seem that large to me...

Yeah, but you get to go on cruises all the time. What could be better than going exotic places, meeting interesting people, then killing them?

Yeah, nothing is better than pulling into the dirtiest shipyard of a third world country, then putting on your whites.

:yay: Karachi, Pakistan. What a smell. Forunately, we were not allowed to wear uniforms there. Of course, how hard is it to pick out all the Americans walking around?

Trust me I know its not that easy.. being in 5th grade and figuring out and deciding for myself that I wanna show people I can be better than the reputation of my alcoholic father, was hard.. very hard.. and yeah I slipped a few times in middle school as far as - doing a few things I shouldn't have - despite I never got caught for doing them - I never got into drugs or nothing like that but I was doing things I shouldn't have been doing at that age but I pulled myself together and pushed myself thru, and its made me a stronger person for it.. it can be done, but it will not be easy.. u gotta get your mind right.

Statistically it is almost 2x increase - thus twice the violence rate... and this is only what is reported/caught by faculty.

Yes. I understand that.

But, instead of having 5 incidents per 1000 students you know have 10 incidents per 1000 students...

The rate isn't that drastic when you consider the fact that it went from a sample set of less than 5% to 50% minorities...

Dammit, that gets me every time. Someday I'll learn how to be a proper forumite.

Here is a different view - from 1999 - 2006 - these numbers now increase - the first chart I showed are crimes actually reported to the police - these are incidents of crime reported at the school over a period of time...

The numbers show an exponential climb... higher concentration of minorities, a higher report of violence. I am sorry, but the numbers don't lie...

Table 6.2. Percentage of public schools experiencing and reporting incidents of crime that occurred at school, number of incidents, and the rate per 1,000 students, by type of crime: Various school years, 1999-2000, 2003-04, and 2005-06

St. Mary's County: 190 days (191 for new teachers), 7 hours and 30 minutes a day

Calvert County: 190 days (192 for new teachers), 7 hours and 30 minutes a day

This is their contract requirements..

Average Joe (non-Teacher) Employee (making 40k year):

8 hour day
40 hour week
2 weeks vacation, plus 1 week sick (on average), 10 holidays (average)

40 (hour week) * 52 (weeks) - 2 (weeks for vacation) = 2000 work hours a year

2000 (year work hours) / 40000 (year salary) = $20 an hour

Average Calvert County Teacher (making 40K year):
7.5 hour day
190 day work year
2 weeks vacation, plus 1 week sick (on average), 10 holidays PLUS 2 Months off during summer, Spring break, Christmas break, Smow days (Average Joe worker has these removed from vacation)

7.5 (work day) * 190 (days worked a year) = 1425 work hours a year

1425 (year work hours) / 40000 (year salary) = $28.07 an hour

Yes.

I understand it's an increase.

What I'm trying to say is from a jump of less than 5% to 50% the increase seems insignificant.

What's strange is: if you look at the increase from less than 5% to 20% the rate actually decreases.

Furthermore.. that little decrease in that bracket seems to muddy the waters even more...

You forgot to factor in hours worked by AVGTeach after school and at home grading papers.

AVGJoe would most certainly expect to get paid if he had that much work assigned to him to do after his core hours.

Heh.

I'm not letting you off that easily.

I'm curious if there is an article that can explain the decrease in that bracket.

Not sure if we can infer anything from that data now that I look at it more closely.

I know plenty of people, at least one right here on the forums, that work well into the night and/or weekends and do not get compensation for it.

I was talking AVGJoe... not :gossip:.

I think teachers are underpaid as salaried employees for the amount of hours they work a year.

Okay, figure in 9 hours instead of 7.5.

Still works out to $23.39 per hour. For the same base salary, and significantly better benefits than the average Joe. 17% more per hour, better benefits, more time with family..... not too shabby all in all.
