Chopticon teacher on a week +++cruise???

Oh yeah, whoever said "they spend their own money", I have no sympathy for that, either. I had a better education than most of the students being turned out today, and I did it without a 50 lb book bag on my back all day. Get rid of the fluff and teach.

My son just started CHopticon this year. His English Honors teacher has been out all week and the sub told them she will be out part of next week that she is on a cruise. How can this be allowed? I made a phone call and it was confirmed that she is indeed on a cruise. She couldn't do this over a break? Do teachers live in the real world???? This has me livid and I plan on calling Annapolis about this. No wonder the children aren't learning anything.

The #### that people complain about... :lmao:

And to this I say, the children will learn how to complain - just browse through the 30+ pages of post in this tread!

Okay. Let's go with the math teacher then. How many hours annually?

I'm actually glad you ask.

That brings up my entire point. No matter what they get paid to do, or are contracted under hour wise, there is no way of truely determining just how many hours they truely do something associated with working for the school...whether it be grading papers, creating assignments, copying assignments, research, many many other examples...most of which they end up doing on their own time...not "paid under contract" time.

So basically, you can't or won't answer my question. And as I stated before, they are not the only people who go above and beyond expectation without compensation. We now live in a world where employers want more, for less. All of us.

I never said it was an easy job. There's a reason why it's called "work".

I really don't know what the gripe is. I can't grasp it. I know a lot of people, average joe's and degreed, that put in 60-80 hour weeks. I don't see the pity party for them.

What about the people that work right up to, but not quite 40 hours, in retail. They don't have health insurance, they usually work weekends and holidays, and you want people to feel sympathetic to the plight of teachers?

But no one raises hell when they decide to take a vacation, which is/was the original intent of this thread.

I know of one instance where an irate MOTHER called a teacher during her maternity leave and asked her how she could have the nerve to leave her classroom, and wanted to know why she couldn't have planned to have the child in the summer so as not to interrupt her child's education.

And then you have complete social rejects who don't have a clue about what goes on in the world around them. I thought it was a pretty petty and stupid gripe myself.

Licensed? Is there a teacher's license?

No, I don't think that's a high salary, but I don't think it's a pittance, either. But, I also don't think there are very many teachers making only $40,000/year here. However, when you take into account the low work hours of a teacher, and "quality of life" issues (days off when the kids are have days off of school for the most part, all holidays with the family, etc., etc.), the tenure that pretty much prohibits any real punishment or fear of losing one's job, the medical and retirement benefits.... Yeah, I guess I do think that's an acceptable paycheck for the work involved.

hate to tell you this but I would consider $40,000 a SIGNIFICANT raise. and I'm not sure where you're getting your info on retirement and medical benefits but I can tell you first hand, they aren't any better than the average professional. at least not from where I'm sitting.

because things aren't always black and white :yay:

and I realize other people go out of their way to do extra work as well, but I don't see any of you saying that they don't deserve vaction because they only get X number of hours "ON THE CLOCK"...

In predicate calculus all it takes is one thing to be proven false.

I just proved that across the board it can't be said definitively that as it increases so does violence.

All I had to do was disprove it once.

What if the study stopped at that threshold?

Would I be able to say it decreases?

The onus is on you - to prove without a doubt that is the case.

:nono: This is not calculus... These are numbers, plain and simple - and like I have shown - as the numbers increase, so does the violence... get your head out of your degree and calculus proofs!

The study shows as the percentages increase, so does the ratio of violence - maybe someone else can spoon feed you on this...

Go find some different data and show me that as the minority ratio increases, the rate of violence decreases - I challenge you to do so.

Can you do that?

If not, find another topic to piss around with because no else is chiming in to say what I have shown is wrong, and I mean definitively wrong.

"Doubled"?? You think they work 15 hours a day?? From 7 am until 10 pm, they're doing nothing but work for the school? REALITY CHECK!

Reality check, my Commanding Officer's scheduled working hours are from 0700 to 1530 with a 1 1/2 hour lunch break Mon through Fri. Reality, I've been working 10 hours a day including lunch.

Just because you can add school days and hours doesn't mean that's all the work going on.

no, quite the contrary. I WILL say Late has made some valid TECHNICAL standpoints about why some people will not take the information as being true, but in the grand scheme of things, you are definitely correct in your hypothesis that greater percentage of minorities = higher amounts of violence.

The original poster was quite put out that a teacher had the audacity to take a week long vacation during the school year.

ummm, can't remember.

people argued that teachers only work 7.5 hour days or something and that they get some super massive vacation time (such as in the summer) and that their pay is actually something like...22.XX an hour because even if they work 9 hour days for 10 months or something (not counting weekends) then this is what it comes out to...it was all mumbo jumbo TRYING to say that teachers make more than they do and get more vacation time than they actually do. trust me, without reading over this thread, i'll tell you that pretty dumb statements and "facts" were said....

Yep -- a person with the name Roxie on page 3 last post wrote

This is why my kids now go to private school. I think 3 days would be plenty but a week plus is harmfull to their education. But like you said the world needs garbage collecters and burger flippers...that's what public schools are known for.

I dont know how to multiple quote so I just cut and past sorry!
