Oh, another thing. The owners/trainers don't care for their teeth, so adopted grey's usually don't have very healthy teeth when you get them.

That's because they eat a soft diet when racing...bad for their teeth and gums.

We have two Greys and no other dogs. Both of our greys are on the large end. We have to step over dogs as it is....no others will fit in the house... :lmao:

We once had 9 dogs in the house....and at least 6 (maybe more) were greys.... :faint:

I'm not sure... it was in the paperwork when we adopted them.
That's just strange. If they were used for racing, you would think beer would make them run slower, but who knows? Those poor pups. My girlfriend adopted one. They had special boots made for her/his feet because they were such a mess.

Disappointing service w... 04-12-2007 11:01 AM you shouldn't be breeding animals if you can't afford their emergencies

I remember reading somewhere that the beer relaxes their muscles after a race...not sure how much truth is in that.

Also, about the bad teeth thing-their mouth is very long, so their tongue doesn't do as well 'cleaning' the teeth....heard that from a vet once.

Read this...
 Mabye now they are.

I've learned throught the years that there is alot of propaganda involved in the Greyhound industry. Some of the things we hear about how owners treat greyhounds is not true. Some of it is. I've visited some of the kennels and of those the dogs were taken great care of. Better care than some of my neighbors take care of their "pets". I have seen some horrifc treatment of greys example...the guy in alabama that was shooting them when they were no longer fit for racing. I am against greyhound racing (I don't even like horse racing).

I agree with you..... some track are better than others though. The NH track has greatly improved the conditions. Florida tracks tend to be much worse....

Yes...We visited a track in colorado. Nice facilities for the dogs. Most out there are closing down.
