Ok, so you have to wait until judgement day to go to heaven or hell or does this happen when you die?

Heaven is instant. The thief on the cross was in paradise "this day" according to Jesus. The lake of fire is at the final judgment. Those that will reside in the lake of fire wait in their graves for that time. That is according to the book of Revelation.

Yes, and I do not want to be there! Think about it, all those who believe will be GONE. All those left on earch will be no believers or those who have it incorrect. Who will be here to change their minds? While it seems that it would be easy to believe, you would be in the VAST minority. Picture this, we are having this conversation......and suddenly there are no responses from me, you, this_person, fred, 2A, etc. The rest keep typing. No response. They go outside and start hearing that people just vanished. Poof! Amazing! Have you guys read the books "Left Behind"?

Sorry. I don't believe in the pre-tribulation rapture. It does not stand up to what Jesus taught His disciples.
Matthew 24:1-31

Signs of Christ's Return
1Jesus came out from the temple and was going away when His disciples came up to point out the temple buildings to Him.

2And He said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Truly I say to you, not one stone here will be left upon another, which will not be torn down."

3As He was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to Him privately, saying, "Tell us, when will these things happen, and what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?"

4And Jesus answered and said to them, "See to it that no one misleads you.

5"For many will come in My name, saying, 'I am the Christ,' and will mislead many.

6"You will be hearing of wars and rumors of wars. See that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end.

7"For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes.

8"But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.

9"Then they will deliver you to tribulation, and will kill you, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name.

10"At that time many will fall away and will betray one another and hate one another.

11"Many false prophets will arise and will mislead many.

12"Because lawlessness is increased, most people's love will grow cold.

13"But the one who endures to the end, he will be saved.

14"This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come.

Perilous Times
15"Therefore when you see the ABOMINATION OF DESOLATION which was spoken of through Daniel the prophet, standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),

16then those who are in Judea must flee to the mountains.

17"Whoever is on the housetop must not go down to get the things out that are in his house.

18"Whoever is in the field must not turn back to get his cloak.

19"But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days!

20"But pray that your flight will not be in the winter, or on a Sabbath.

21"For then there will be a great tribulation, such as has not occurred since the beginning of the world until now, nor ever will.

22"Unless those days had been cut short, no life would have been saved; but for the sake of the elect those days will be cut short.

23"Then if anyone says to you, 'Behold, here is the Christ,' or 'There He is,' do not believe him.

24"For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will show great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect.

25"Behold, I have told you in advance.

26"So if they say to you, 'Behold, He is in the wilderness,' do not go out, or, 'Behold, He is in the inner rooms,' do not believe them.

27"For just as the lightning comes from the east and flashes even to the west, so will the coming of the Son of Man be.

28"Wherever the corpse is, there the vultures will gather.
The Glorious Return
29"But immediately after the tribulation of those days THE SUN WILL BE DARKENED, AND THE MOON WILL NOT GIVE ITS LIGHT, AND THE STARS WILL FALL from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.

30"And then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they will see the SON OF MAN COMING ON THE CLOUDS OF THE SKY with power and great glory.

31"And He will send forth His angels with A GREAT TRUMPET and THEY WILL GATHER TOGETHER His elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.
It would be nice to not have to go through the tribulation. Maybe I won't if I die before that time, but I think things are coming to an end rapidly. May happen before I die; 20 years or so; sooner. But no man knows the hour or the day.

I look at it this way. If I am prepared to go through the tribulation and there is a pre-tribulation rapture, no harm no foul. My salvation is based in Jesus not pre or post tribulation rapture.

Those that expect to be taken before the tribulation and have to go through it may fall away because of the hard times and the disappointment of having to go through them.

I'm not completely convinced that there will be a pre trib' rapture either, but I'm still studying on it. Much of what Jesus spoke of in Matthew 24 had to do with the destruction of the temple in 70AD although some of it does refer to the end times of the world. A word to the wise here: don't read Tim LaHey's left behind books as if they were gospel truths. He REALLY screws up MUCH of the interpretation of the Bible language due to his inability to allow "Scripture to interpret Scripture". One example: Matthew 24 v 30 when Jesus speaks of "the Son of man coming on clouds" is an OT metaphor for God's power & Majesty. It doesn't refer to the "rapture" nor does it mean literally that He rides on a cloud. Ezekiel 30, Joel 2, Isaiah 19 & Rev 1 speak to this issue. WOW, this is a long way from Dr Charles Stanley isn't it?

I find it hard to believe that a company would put out a questionnaire that was used to screen prospective employees regarding relgion due to legal suits. That would be like them asking if you are gay or straight.

what do you think heaven is really like?

I know you didn't ask me, but I hope you don't mind me answering. No more pain. No more tears. No more betrayals. The peace of mind only God can bring. The unconditional love and total acceptance only Jesus can offer. The awesomeness of always being in His presence and being able to praise and worship Him 24/7 while actually being able to look upon His Holy Face. I have heard the stories of the streets of gold and how we will all have our own mansion and that will be wonderful but I just want the things I mentioned at the beginning and to see the Glory of my Jesus more than anything else. It's what I live for.

The Bible says we won't have relationships anymore which I guess is good for people who had a spouse die and they remarried. I think we will know the love for each other still. Unfortunately for me, a lot of my loved ones will not be there. They did not believe. A lot of people think I am nuts because I think animals have souls and I always wondered what happens to them when they die. I know it sounds goofy but I am very soft hearted!

:coffee: I do not see how anyone can say that she believes some of her own family members are to burn in Hell for all eternity,

and then claim to be soft hearted.

That kind of contradiction is not acceptable in my God.

Little story about Dr. Charles Stanley.

Dark Side Of The Mesa , Did Michael Blagg Murder His Wife And Daughter? - CBS News

I know you are wondering what in the world I am posting a summary to a murder of a wife and daughter here but Charles Stanley was the link to solving that crime.

The wife, wrote "Charles Stanley" down on a piece of paper with a date. The investigators called and found out that he discussed "Sex/Pornography Addictions" that day. Investigators learned that Michael was confronted about his pornography addictions by his wife and due to being a narcissistic, it is believed he flew into a rage and killed his wife and daughter. Further investigation revealed that the wife and daughter just might be at the local landfill. They dug in the landfill for weeks. They found his wife but Abby, the couple's daughter, was never found.

I’m impressed that Stanley discusses issues that others will avoid entirely but are serious and important issues that get tons of listeners.

I am not sure everyone will be saved. The bible stresses the importance of the seeds we plant and frankly, working in a counseling environment and interviewing people extensively, well, you see the seeds planted early on in people’s lives, as children, that lead to their situations and disorders. I believe that reaping what we sow is what we leave to others and our children and they do have lasting affects long after we are gone.

Life isn’t meant to be easy at all, nor is it. There is so much violence in the world, so much hate, distain for each other, and frankly, what if we didn’t have that? Would we turn to God, because, doesn’t it seem that many only turn to God when they are severely down in the pits of life? When you are out and have understanding, it could only be the work of God, and continuing to live his way that keeps you out of those pits and keeps you from entering that pit again.

For God has imprisoned all in disobedience so that he may be merciful to all.
Rom 11:32

I have said it before on this board that I believe the devil rules this world. There was a time when Jesus went in the desert and Satan lifted him in the sky and offered him the world. He said, my father says to trust and believe in him. Jesus told him no. If you have ever seen a down and out drunk, addict, mentally disordered person, you believe that an evil exist that isn’t of this world but a product of this world. If you listen long enough, you will learn where the seed was planted. In today’s day and age, people cannot even handle their emotions, and I believe that even a sane person can and will be driven to destructive and deadly emotions if they focus on the negative, instead of the positive.

Everyday, you hear of another murder or lesser random act of violence. You see people sick with crippling illness and now we have learned that positive thinking is what can overcome illness and even bring about miracles.

Doctor Stanley has fantastic messages that are positive and uplifting and can and do help people get out of those dark, devil occupied, places in life. Hell can be right here on Earth and if the devil wins, I believe his reward is your soul, but I also have to wonder if a seed planted at childhood is the fault of the, now grown adult, or if it leans back to the inheritance we read about in the bible, basically the seed was planted by prior generations and they are paying the price with their soul?

Fortunately I don't serve your god but the true God who is the Trinity of God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Ghost. It pains me greatly that not all of my family was saved and not all of them are saved now.Don't speak of what you do not know which is my relationship with my family. :diva: Sorry, you said "loved ones" were in Hell and I took that to mean family.

I will try to be more careful about words.

But even if they are "loved ones" burning for all eternity then how can that be soft hearted?

or a loving God?

I will choose to burn in Hell with my fellow sinners before sharing paradise with such soft hearted persons.

I would not even accept an evil demon being burned in Hell without me rebelling.

 I wish you asked this in the "Elections" forum.

But it works for me here too.

I liked O'Malley as the mayor of Baltimore immensely as I say he was incredible and an excellant Mayor.

But some thing happened to O'Malley as Governor and now it hurts me to hear him.

I see he has betrayed us all and without any visible justification that I can see.

Now O'Malley is dumping slots onto us and higher taxes and cutting funding for schools and other infrastructure.

I am just so very disapointed with O'Malley that it just breaks my heart.

His campaign for Governor was brillient and we were expecting him to be a high candidate for vice-President in the coming election.

It has become a very sad and irritating situation for me.

P.S. I loved what "Pandora" posted about the preacher Dr. Charles Stanley, very impressive Pandora.

My loved ones do include my family and I suffer much pain that they never got saved and will not be with me in Heaven. As for you - do not try and condemn me as not being soft hearted because I realize they are not in Heaven. As for you choosing to burn in Hell rather than accept God does not allow everyone into Heaven - that is up to you and I pray you will come to know the error of your ways.

I thought you were all about staying on topic and hated "diversions". At least that's what you said here, but maybe you pull that card only when you can not answer the question(s) asked.

JPC sr said:

Which of his most-publicized 'accomplishments' were you most happy with - his not lowering crime, not lowering taxes, or not fixing the school system?

Maybe I should have said "some verses" instead of "many" but no matter, what is your take on vs 15,16 and 34? I think they have a reference to the temple destruction don't you? Why would Jesus speak of the "abomination that causes desolation" that Daniel 9, 11, 12 spoke of in reference to the temple destruction and mention only to those in Judea to flee and, finally, "this generation" won't pass away until this has happened?
