I'm not sure where you got your knowledge from but you are assuming that all people are the same. The Amish community is just like any other community in that some of them take good care of their animals and some don't. I know plenty of Amish that deworm, give the needed shots, and take very good care of their animals including their puppies. Perhaps you should research a little further before making assumptions.

At the risk of associating myself with the (slightly hysterical) OP, I have to disagree with some of this. It's hard for me to wrap my brain around the idea that their religious beliefs dictate that they fail to provide adequate food & shelter for animals. I understand that they live a very different life than the rest of the modern world, and if they don't want to use modern medicine on themselves or their animals, so be it. But I've been to the farmers market a few times and seen the animals for sale there, and they are generally in sad shape. IMO, failing to provide shelter from the elements is deliberately inflicting pain.
I'm fine with treating an animal, as an animal. I eat meat. Hunting & fishing are ok by me. And the medical care that my pets get is limited by my budget. But there is a certain level of respect that any living thing should be provided, and leaving a puppy in the hot sun till it gets woozy is damned hard to justify.

IF something like this bothers you, you can call animal control and you can confront the seller in a non-confrontational way. You can tell the seller that for you his treatment and care of his animals keep you from wanting to support him by buying his animals. Maybe if enough people let him know or didn't buy he would change his ways or stop selling. Or maybe he won't give a poop, but you've done what you can.

If you are selling any kind of animals or have a boarding/grooming business you have to have a commerical license. From the way it was explained to me anyone selling puppies has to show proof of their shots and that they are 8 weeks old, if they are selling in St. Mary's even if they are coming from out of the county. The animal control comes and inspects once a year or if they get a report of suspected abuse. I don't sell animals so most of it doesn't apply to me but I still have to have a license and display it. I'm sure if you call animal control they can explain it better then I can.
It isn't just the Amish, those people in the horse trailer sell along Rt 5 on Saturdays
