My neighbor works for one of the companies that lost 8 houses. He said that every house in the 'hood had accelerant in it.

:yikes:

They were going to burn all the houses? That just boggles my mind.

I hope when they catch the punks that started the fires they charge them with terrorism. They need to go away for a very long time.

Actually I heard them use the term "eco-terrorism" this morning.

I wasn't being funny...

I am deeply disgusted by Developers who are able to wield so much power that they can manipulate county zoning boards, commisioners and scoff at Environmental regs. They build with staple-on roofs, 2x4's that aren't actually 2x4's...they pave 2inch thick drive ways, and help thousands of illegal immigrants find work. They make lofty promises about amenities and tax benefits and dump ilegally anywhere they can, burn piles of formerly quiet woods for days and destroy archaeological sites with impunity. Their trash cracks our windshields and blows our tires. Johnny home-owner has to jump through hoops to build a sun porch but Urban Blight INC can get whatever they want by flashing cash.

No...I don't find them funny...I take satifaction in seeing them go bankrupt, get sued, and get tangled in environmental suits. Thus...I shed no tears over the torched mansions. I'm just sorry that I didn't have any marshmellows.

I very rarely disagree with you but I just don't see how a ten acre fire is enviromentally sound.

And one more thing....

If Farmer John refused to sell out to Urban Blight INC and ignored random threats....and he finds his Barn & Tractor in flames, hay stacks torched, corn crib smoldering...all evidence of arson. How many ATF, FBI, and CSI crews would be snooping over the site looking for evidence of Suburban Sprawl terrorism? The most he could expect is some corporal from the State police shrugging his shoulders and saying "we'll keep our eyes and ears open for ya."

Compare that to the tens of thousands of $$ already spent in the last 24 hours looking to build a case against the eco-terrorists. Tell me again about the law being blind. Its another case of looking out for the rich.

AMAZING...You sound like a guy standing there with a can of accelerant in his hand. Do you realize that in order to buy those homes many of those people sold their homes? What happens to them now that their contract requires them to settle on their current home? No where to live 3 weeks before Christmas....It doesn't matter that no one was living there, there are 42 families with their world crashing down around them today because of those fires...and sick people regretting that they forgot the marshmallows.

Oh chill out, he's partly right.

Developers can manipulate county zoning boards, commisioners and scoff at Environmental regs.

It happens around here with lots that are supposed to be unbuildable because of the slope; the builder just gets a "special permit". Then some idiot comes along and buys it and goes screaming their heads off about septic, erosion, or whatever the problems may be.

I agree with you. My heart goes out to the families that were supposed to be buying those destroyed houses. Now they are more than likely homeless.

I'm not going to say that it isn't a terrible thing but isn't that why people have insurance? you make it sound like they are now going to be tossed out onto the streets:confused:

And on another note, to the eco-turds, is setting fire to 40 homes environmentally safe?

But wait, there's more...

:bs: Don't hate the developers; hate the corrupt, moral-less, unethical people voted into those seats who allowed themselves to be bribed or manipulated.

Not the builders, no. But what about the people that contracted to purchase those houses, and have sold their current homes in order to move into the now burned hulks?

Homeless?? I don't think so.. we talking 500K houses not mobile homes..

I'm sure they can afford a place to live while their houses get rebuilt.. What would a house, selling for 500K, payment be? 4 or 5 K a month? You think they can find a rental for that much while their house is being rebuilt? Hell for that I will rent to them, move out of my house and find something else for me. I'ts something like the Kuwaiti War Refugees during Desert Storm..

I saw that mentioned somewhere.. about eco-terrorists, and 10 of thousands of gallons of water laced wiht paint, oil and chemical residue being introduced into the Marsh they are trying to protect by burning down these houses.

You can't assume what another families position is. If they had a specific settlement date coming up, they still hang in limbo finding a rental, etc. And, until they settle on these new homes, it's the builders' insurance that covers it, not theirs, it will take time to figure out what that covers. Most developers aren't insured to the tune of 42 losses in one day.
I'm sure things will work themselves out, but there are still a lot more people affected than the builders and NO ONE should feel like this is just a case of money hungry developers paying their just dues.

Again isn't this what insurance is for? I mean normally you don't sell your house unless you have a contract for a new one:shrug:

I CAN assume if they are buying a halfmillion dollar house they are not destitute, and can buy a place to rent if they have to to hold them over.. from what I understand is no Money (except a downpayment of 5 or 10K) changes hands until the final settlement/ closing.. So if the new owners haven't made it to closing yet, they are all still the developers houses, and the new owners haven't suffered any loss. And if their closing was conditional on the selling of their current home, that usually takes place on at least the same day as closing on the new home.. so they would void their contract and not have to move from the house they currently live in.

Developer is going to take a bite in the shorts over this one, but the individual buyers I don't think will get hurt at all, other then not being able to move in to their new houses for another 6 months or so.
