Depending on your point of view almost ALL domestic pets are wild anilmals, somewhere else in the world.. so what's the difference if it's a squirrel or a guinea pig.. or a Rat??

I can see the phone # below your post. If I ever find a wild animal hurt, I'll be sure to call it.

Fanatics sometimes drive people away from what is best. You could do more good by not being an azz. While I understand your point, I think that squirrel lived longer than it would have in the wild.

BTW, can you do trapping of squirrels at my birdfeeder? I'm tired of putting five pounds of feed in there every day for the birds and having the squirrels tear it up in about 2 hours.

If you feed birds, then you feed squirrels...
If you dont want to feed squirrels, dont feed the birds.

How hard is that?

IF you have a problem, call me and I will conduct an assessment and advise.
I am licensed to do that.

But I will not trap...for ever squirrel I remove, another will move in.

You provide a steady food sourse, you will have all sorts of wildlife eating there.

But heck..do what you want,,,,I am just a fanatic..
Actually I have a passion for protecting smart animals from stupid people.
And if you finally "get" it, then hopefully one less animal will suffer from humankind.

I am sure you would enjoy spending your entire life locked away from your own kind and no contact and no chance of mating and reproducing, as nature intended you to do. Would you enjoy it for 80+ years?

And then when someone comes to your defence, everyone attacks and makes fun of that person defending you and your way of life.

Do I will keep defending and correcting anyone who makes pets of wildlife.

Even a tiny gray squirrel.

I didn't notice anyone making fun of you. It's nice you have a passion for wildlife, but you attacked first. I personally found nothing wrong with the squirrel story and BTW it mentions he was not alone.

There is a diffrerence between domestic and wildlife in Maryland.

But for that fact, you can be considered wildlife...

Adult deer can not be rehabbed in MD, only fawns.

Adult deer are shot.
Want me to come out and shoot it?

I asked DR to make a trough for her so I could put corn in it, but I think I should just quit feeding it. Salt lick will be removed tomorrow.

Different angle...

I am currently reading Last Child in the Woods (Richard Louv)

Thesis: Nature-deficit disorder is altering the way our kids view outdoors, nature & animals. I REALLY understand why the state has those protections.
I REALLY admire the many volunteers who take the time to help restore wild animals back to health & nature.

HOWEVER, I am very concerned that this generation has this odd fear of the woods, insects, and even small mammals. I have met adults who won't come into our museum because they know their are snakes downstairs behind glass.
This odd paranoia is being passed down to a whole generation of kids who have become accustomed to AC, Filtered air, Chlorine-filled pools, and addicted to anti-bacterial soap.

Paso: you have a big heart, and your love of wildlife---should be spread among as many as possible.

Ink: your efforts to keep the wild---wild: is equally praise worthy. What a great network of dozens of volunteers who commit many hours & funds to rehabilitate & restore.

It is just a bit disappointing that we feel the need to haul out the rule book to threaten people who ...are also into nature.

Anyway....GO READ THIS BOOK!! It is superbly written.

Sure you can...you can feed anything you want out in your yard.

Hunters put out corn and feed every year to build up bucks to shoot them in the fall.

Bird watching is big business!! $$$$$$$$$

You know, that comment that Inkpen made made me sick. We are mean for taking in baby animals and hurt wildlife because we take them out of the wild. But they go in and shoot that defenseless animal just because it has something wrong with it?? WHY?? Why can't you take it in and take care of it for the rest of its life?? We do it for humans!!! Should we just start shooting our handicapped people??? I don't get it!

I was kind of hoping for squirrel shooting and we could have a squirrel fry. I love that deer. She's been around forever.
