There is a diffrerence between domestic and wildlife in Maryland.

But for that fact, you can be considered wildlife...
Which Rat is wildlife, which is domestic? WHY is guinea pig considered domestic, or for that matter ferrets, or hedgehogs? Because someone SOLD it it's considered domestic? HEaven forbid you get your pet out of your backyard for FREE!!

But they did not post a story about it and brag about it.
Sad they all lived as captured wildlife and never had the chance to live the life nature intended.

You are such a damned hypocrite. What the hell do you call your wildlife threads? It just gets your goat to know that there are people out there besides you that can rehab animals. Geesh, my sister, my mom, and I should have just killed all those countless baby birds, kittens, etc that we raised all those years too. Tell that baby animal that it is "illegal" to help it survive....it will understand why you can't save it as it sits there starving to death. Hey, it has to die because COMAR says so.

You know, that comment that Inkpen made made me sick. We are mean for taking in baby animals and hurt wildlife because we take them out of the wild. But they go in and shoot that defenseless animal just because it has something wrong with it?? WHY?? Why can't you take it in and take care of it for the rest of its life?? We do it for humans!!! Should we just start shooting our handicapped people??? I don't get it!

Adult deer can not be rehabbed in Md.
WHY...call DNR.
If the adult can manage with trauma there is no need to put it down.
Nature does well with deer...and I have seen many with busted legs raise fawns very well.

The point you missed Mouse is that adults can not be rehabbed and only means is for DNR to shot then.

That is state law.

Dont like it...change it.

Sorry you think it is mean and my comment was mean too.

You licensed, trained, permitted to rescue, rehab and release wildlife?
If you are GREAT!!!! Good job!!

But what happens when you child is sick? You treat it at home?
Or take it to a doctor?

Point is, too many peole think they can treat wildllife and they cant.

Know how many opossums and bunnies die beacuse soemome gave it milk? Or kitten milk from PetsMart?
How many raccoons were euthanized because someone wanted a pet?
And now many of those people had to be treaed for suspected rabies for touching the raccoon?

The laws are meant to protect people and the wildlife.

I post to educate...To inform people abut what to do when you find babies...who to call....
I do not keep widlife...all get released.
Tonight I released one opossum and tomorrow I release 3 more.

Next weekend I soft release 2 squirrels.

I follow state law..and do the best I can for wildlife.

I work with at least 4 other rehabbers and 2 wildlife vets....

Who do you work with to make sure you are doing the best you can for the wildlife you have?

You really want to do the right thing?

As far as my kids...It depends on what is wrong with them, and if I can treat them at home I do, I avoid doctors, I really do.

If you think that's best, well  She's survived for ten years limping thru here, but you're the expert.

I am not the expert, the DRN rep who will come out to evaluate it is the expert and has the "big" gun.

I do not carry a gun, though I am permitted to do so.

But if you child fell, had a cut, would you sew it up?

If your childs leg was twisted? Would you xray it and fix it?

If you found white, skinny worms in his poop, what would you do?

Do you give your child the shots they need to go to school?

Where do you buy these shots?

If your child has a special diet, how would you know?

What would you feed it?

If your child was hit by a car and had head trauma, what would you do?
Put ice on it and put him to bed?

(All these are common situations with wildlife on a day to day basis)

I'm just saying for things that I can treat at home, I treat at home, if it's serious, yes I take them to a dr.

No, your posts are mean and hateful. You might have good intentions, but you really have shiatty ways of expressing it.

Do you know how much of that stuff I have already done on countless animals? Minus the x-raying, because I'm not rich enough to afford an x-ray machine...but I have splinted broken animal limbs before, and the animals healed very nicely. I know how to deworm, I know how to administer vaccines, give IV meds, suture wounds, :blahblah:

Besides, are you a licensed veterinarian?

And I'm not sure how much faith I put into DNR....when BF's coworkers called them because of that fawn, they said they didn't want it....leave it alone and it's mom will come back to it....when it had already been away from it's mother for at least 24 hours....and it was extremely hot outside. THAT doesn't sound like a good idea to me.

And FYI...I did contact DNR about a year ago because I was interested in becoming a rehabber.....but I don't have time or space right now to go through all of the requirements. If rehabbers all have your snotty attitude, I think I'll change my mind.
