Here's my definition, Crabcake:

SMIB
n. Acronym for "Southern Maryland InBred". Derogatory term used by former city dwellers who think they're better than rural people. Considered offensive because it accuses SoMd natives of having sexual congress with their siblings and parents. Considered to be as offensive as "n*****" is to blacks and "k***" is to Jews.

I have no desire to visit any location named the "Big Wet Spot."

Can we get back on topic now? We are talking about halloween condoms :duh:

you know what is very "revealing", besides how this post got off subject, is how a lot of people seem to believe:

1. by someone (like yourself) giving kids a condom, that means they are definitely going to have sex. absolutely....

2. but by not giving them condoms, they won't, and

3. teenagers are not having sex.

if i were a teenager, not having sex, and i got a condom- i would probably just think it was funny. same way little girls of 14 and 15 will laugh about tampons and stuff. they'd probably just give it to one of their friends as a joke, or stick it on a teacher's desk, or do something else silly with it.

a lot of 16 year olds, if they aren't having sex, they are thinking about it. so if the time does come when they decide to "try it out" they should be prepared and know what they are doing, in order to prevent mistakes.

i don't see a problem with the condoms, if they are teenagers, most likely they'll think it's funny. it certainly doesn't HURT anyone. and if they are using it and protecting themselves, good for them!!!!

While I can't point to any official document that supports this, my understanding of the origins are as follows.

The term Beemer was first used with motorcycles. Back when British bikes dominated the market and BSA was a well-known marque, riders referred to them as Beezers -- a way to say the letters BSA as if it were a word.

BMW riders said Beemer as a way of saying BMW as a word. This was long before the popularity of BMW cars, so whenever the term Beemer was spoken, it referred to the motorcycle. In theory, one could apply Beemer to either cars or bikes since it is only a reference to the name BMW. In fact some folks do call BMW cars Beemers.

When the cars became popular, many people referred to them as Bimmers as well as Beemers. I don't know why this was adopted instead of simply using the existing Beemers.

But generally speaking, one calls the bikes Beemers and the cars Bimmers. While it would be ok to refer to a car as a Beemer, it doesn't seem appropriate to refer to a bike as a Bimmer.

Your theory is all well and good. But giving a child a condom is telling them that it is okay to become sexually active.

And I WOULD hurt someone if they gave my child a condom, probably with a baseball bat.

But again, how do you KNOW they're teenagers? And do you not have a problem with perfect strangers handing out condoms to kids?

What if I decide to give out ammo for Halloween?

Were talking about Halloween and giving out condoms. Would you appreciate it if your child came home from Trick or Treat with a condom in their candy bag - teenager or not? Once again, what message does that send. Trick or Treat is for the young kids - not for teenagers to walk around in street clothes (yes, this has happened to me - not even in costume but in regular clothing) asking for candy and getting condoms.

First of all Shakezula, this thread was about the idea of handing out condoms at Halloween. Which I think is totally unappropriate. Second, I would prefer to be the one handing the condom or talking about protection to my kid then some stranger at Halloween.

That is very cool of you. A lot of people think by not talking to their kids about it, or thinking their kids can't get condoms, their kids won't have sex... which is scary, and sad.

I am not saying I would hand out condoms on Halloween, but I have a couple of teenage cousins- so, my views were expressed with them in mind. If they came home with condoms, they would probably just laugh about it- I don't think just because they had a condom they would feel like they "needed" to use it.
