Not where you think it is Mr. Nasty Brain  Remember me? Ms. Wino? I know my wine glasses also and you don't drink wine from a flute. A flute is shaped that way for champagne. Now get your mind outta the gutter and back in computer help mode.
Yes ma'm. :dulyeducatedandchastised:

Sounds as though she has picked up a virus; IE6 normally doesn't go south the way she describes the situation.

The only time I recall losing IE6 was when I was messing with the Registry, eliminating some files I thought I didn't need anymore. Uh-huh. :dur:

BTW: Is that wine you're drinking a French wine, or some other vintage Jameo got from her friend?

And the worst part of it all...

is I'm trying to transfer files from the desktop to the laptop, but the desktop only has a CD reader and a 3.5 floppy and the laptop has a no floppy drive but has a CD writer. THEY CAN'T TALK TO EACH OTHER IN THAT DIRECTION. :killingme :jet:

Oh, I think I've had enough of this for awhile. :banghead:

Unless you get a "*.*" file is corrupt or missing with the warning about IE being damaged, copying files probably won't work.. for one, you'd have to read WHERE the file was supposed to be it was trying to read, and replace it to that directory..

I would agree with whoever mentioned Windows being corrupt NOT IE.. Especially since you've mentioned uninstalling and re-installing IE... DO you ahe the win2000 CD? Try to do a repair of WIndows.. I've never had it work, but I'm sure it will work for SOMEbody sometime.. Other then that, if you don't want to lose all your data, or copy all of your data files when you re-install windows, buy another hard drive.. doesn't have to be anything big.. but put the new one in, install Windows on it.. and use it as your boot drive.. all your data will still be on your old drive, with all the programs installed still working.. and you'll have a connection to the internet..

I'd suggest WINXP.. call me if you need it!!

Other then those two options.. you'll have to format your drive, and re-install Windows.

These were just files like 'My favorites' for IE so I can get to the web sites I need to pay some bills. THAT I know how to do, but unfortunately the configurations of these two machines are NOT making it easy.

I have the win2000 CD, but when I put it in and tried to run it, it said something about not being able to run in 16-bit mode. I tried the repair of IE and then Windows, and it did nothing. :ohwell: I could do the other hard drive thing, but only if I exhaust all options.

I'd suggest WINXP.. call me if you need it!!
:yay: I already have it on the laptop, but thanks for the offer!

:twitch: THAT I don't want to do.

Yes, they do. I was just looking up how to do that. What kind of cable do you need to get them to "talk"? One is XP and the other is 2K.

I think what Vrai is getting at is, there is a crossover ethernet cable(normally yellow) that can be used to transfer files from one PC to another.

Good idea, Vrai!!

Go into your BIOS.. ("F8" or DEl during start up, whichever it says on the bottom of the screen) and select CD drive as FIRST boot up device.. THEN restart with the WIN 2000 disk inyour CD DRive..

Have CD as first BOot device.. and your Hard Drive as second..

My old computer was a 2K and my new one is an XP. All I used was the regular ethernet cable, hooked them together, set them to share, and transferred the files. Piece o'cake.
