Jabba, what are you using for an OS?JabbaJawz said:Jazz - I'm having the same issue, both with IE and Firefox. I never even use IE, but since Firefox has been hosing up I resorted to it. After a restart either will run okay for 10 minutes or so, and then get that error and shut down. Sometimes, though, even the restart won't do the trick and I can't get it fixed. I reloaded the OS yesterday and it didn't do a GD thing.
What do you mean by reloading the OS? Did you do a repair, did you install over the old copy?? If it is a virus, you should format the harddrive before doing a re-install of the OS.. If you have the time, a low level format is bestest. SO when your computer asks "Do you want to fomat the drive?" during the install you would answer yes (though this isn't a low level format, it's better then installing over the old copy)JabbaJawz said:Jazz - I'm having the same issue, both with IE and Firefox. You dont go to Kazzaa or download mp3 files do you?jazz lady said:Something has happened to my desktop machine and I cannot run Internet Explorer anymore. Everytime I launch it, it gets an error almost immediately saying "an error has occurred and IE must close" with the option to restart it. If I trying restarting it, I get the same error. I cannot get a browser window to open at all. Thank heavens I have a laptop so I'm not totally disconnected from the outside world.
My ISP is Earthlink. I was with tech support and they had me uninstall and reinstall IE, but it didn't help any. I'm running Windows 2000. I've run Norton, Ad-aware, and SpyBot to make sure my machine is clean.
Anybody have any ideas on what to try? I think they're probably going to tell me to reinstall the operating system next. TIA for any help you can give me.
No, with my slow-azz dial-up connection, it would drive me up the wall waiting for them to download.Fishn Guy said:You dont go to Kazzaa or download mp3 files do you?
I had to disable some programs that were allowing remote access to my PC!jazz lady said:No, with my slow-azz dial-up connection, it would drive me up the wall waiting for them to download.
Mainman had me run a program to look to see what processes were running and he said he saw some bad stuff from the log. Stay tuned!
And me.Penn said:I had to disable some programs that were allowing remote access to my PC!
Hello! Nobody is allowed on my PC - but me!
Sounds like a similar problem to mine. I've tried just about everything BUT reinstalling the OS, but it may come down to that. I'll let you know what Mainman finds. Whatever it is, it is NASTY.JabbaJawz said:Jazz - I'm having the same issue, both with IE and Firefox. I never even use IE, but since Firefox has been hosing up I resorted to it. I am confident that no reinstall will be necessary...jazz lady said:Sounds like a similar problem to mine. I've tried just about everything BUT reinstalling the OS, but it may come down to that. I'll let you know what Mainman finds. Whatever it is, it is NASTY.

Keep it covered in Santiwrap!jazz lady said:
Hopefully the cure won't be too painful.
Penn said:I think what Vrai is getting at is, there is a crossover ethernet cable(normally yellow) that can be used to transfer files from one PC to another.
Good idea, Vrai!!
Okay, I've got the cable. Now what?vraiblonde said:My old computer was a 2K and my new one is an XP. All I used was the regular ethernet cable, hooked them together, set them to share, and transferred the files. Piece o'cake.
Vrai, will you do the honors, please?jazz lady said:Okay, I've got the cable. Now what?
Did ya get it?jazz lady said:Okay, I've got the cable. Now what?

:dur: Your files transferred? And if you are just using a regular ethernet cable to connect 2 PCs, it will not work unless you have a switch or hub in the middle. You need a crossover cable to hook the 2 directly together...jazz lady said:Get what?
Hello McFly! I said I got the crossover cable but don't know how to set it up. I figured it would be easier to ask then to look it up myself, but I can see know that isn't the case.mainman said::dur: Your files transferred?
