I did that before, but it was older OS (98 and 95, I think) and it was a pain in the butt. You had to have a null cable and setting up a master and a slave, etc.vraiblonde said:My old computer was a 2K and my new one is an XP. All I used was the regular ethernet cable, hooked them together, set them to share, and transferred the files. Piece o'cake.
Doh! NOW I get it.Penn said:The wine Jazz is/was drinking is called Hollow Toad!
Actually, both of them are Dells. The desktop is about 2.5 years old. I guess I could ask them. Not sure what happened, but it has sure messed my internet connection up. Fortunately, everything is still there and is now backed up.virgovictoria said:Jazzy, without going back to the beginning, don't you have a Dell? Whatever the case, can't you pull out your paperwork and call for IT support, even if it isn't Dell? I had, what sounds like a very similar problem a little over a year ago. A virus got me... I had to reinstall my O/S... I lost everything - luckily you haven't... I know you've probably already thought of all of this, just remembered that we went through a safe mode for data retrieval (which none of mine could be saved) then scrap and dump....

I repeat: what Vrai said - if both of your computers have an ethernet port, there is a crossover cable(available at Staples), normally yellow in color to differentiate it from the other ethernet cables, and it can be used to transfer date/files from one machine to the other.jazz lady said:Actually, both of them are Dells. I won't have time until later on in the week. I'm running behind as it in getting done what I needed to get done today. I'm sure I'll be up for another couple of hours finishing stuff up.virgovictoria said:That is how the problem "showed" itself - with IE shutting down... Then, a total inability to access it, then total pc lock-ups, etc...
Definitely give them a call - you can probably repair or reinstall, then have smooth sailing w/walk through support! Just note - MAKE SURE YOU HAVE TIME WHEN DOING IT! It takes a while...
That goes without saying.(did I mention that Otter is a booger?)
I think I can "borrow" one from work very easily.Penn said:I repeat: what Vrai said - if both of your computers have an ethernet port, there is a crossover cable(available at Staples), normally yellow in color to differentiate it from the other ethernet cables, and it can be used to transfer date/files from one machine to the other.
Doh!
You go girl!jazz lady said:I think I can "borrow" one from work very easily.
I'm trying, but I have to be sober enough to pay these bills correctly. I wouldn't want to add a few extra zeros to my payments, you know.Penn said:You go girl!
Now finish your wine!
Good Night, and good luck with those zeros!jazz lady said:I'm trying, but I have to be sober enough to pay these bills correctly. I wouldn't want to add a few extra zeros to my payments, you know.
Good night, Penn. I'm almost done. I'd better be - I am about broke after paying SMECO.Penn said:Good Night, and good luck with those zeros!
