My brother did okay overnight - lost power for a while, and had about 9.5" of surge water (from the canals) but his house is raised, so no damages to note there.

My nieces are prepped in their homes in Lakeland, and 1 in Orlando. They're really only getting higher winds with a lot of rain now. So with that, can come power outages, and possibly high waters or leaking water. 1 niece has water leaking into the ceiling of the townhouse - they rent, so that's a maintenance call sometime when it calms down.

So far, so good. I think they're expecting the worst of it overnight, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. They'll check in with me in the morning.

Oddly enough, this storm is said to have made landfall in essentially the same area as Hurricane Charley in 2004 and will make a similar track up thru Florida. Charley is one of the hurricanes in 2004 that caused us such trouble that summer when I lived in Clay County, FL. :jameo: It was really only Cat 1 or maybe was a TS by then. It blew a vent off of our house and water started pouring in. Then a couple of fence panels got blown down. The other main issue when the storm passed by was the threat of tornadoes. It was nerve wracking. We lost power for about 2-3 days, I think.

Fish don't care if it's raining though :sshrug:
The fish may not mind, but my current fishing rig is a small open rowboat with a painted floor that gets mighty slick when wet. My dear old dad used to tell me, "I've been caught in the rain while fishing, but I never went out (boating) in the rain."

For your consideration ...

Lemon spewing all that hot air when he speaks is causing global climate change/warming. He should do the climate a favor and stfu.
Man has no original thoughts as he is an affirmative action token hire and reads/asks only what the corporate media establishment gives him to ask/read. Most news readers, ear piece listeners, are low IQ but high paid to spew the garbage/propaganda of the day.

Authorities Warn That Hurricane Could Cause Florida To Have As Many Water And Power Shortages As California

TAMPA BAY, FL — Authorities are warning that the destructive power of Hurricane Ian is so severe that it could cause Florida to experience water and power shortage almost as bad as they have in California.

"This deadly storm could cause near California-levels of suffering," said NOAA Chief Meteorologist Storm McSerge. "This is absolutely devastating."

Local residents pointed out that they had always wondered what it's like to live in California, and they look forward to finding out. "We're preparing the way we always do," said local Florida man Buggs Crullers. "By stocking up on enough beer, cigarettes, and lotto tickets to last us a couple of weeks! If it gets as bad as a normal day in Cali, we'll be ready!"

I'm in touch with Sharon and 2A - they were right in the path and couldn't evacuate. As of late yesterday they were doing okay, although their house was taking a beating. She sent me vid of the storm as it was happening - yikes.

happy to be living
Now reporting hundreds of fatalities in Lee County. Didn't say from what.
A friend in Cape Coral (Lee Co) was on FB yesterday and reported 155 mile hour winds, trees down, her fence and screened porch were gone. She just now reported that they are safe.
I am very concerned about some other friends that are in East Ft Myers. We texted a couple nights ago but have had no updates. I fear their house and property sustained a lot of water damage. As the crow flies, they are not far from the Caloosahatchee River.
(I lived in both Lee and Collier county for almost 20 years)

I'm glad they are ok. Send them my best. I don't have their numbers.
