I give up, why do people behave this way?

Well, aren't you just a little ray of sunshine, Sunshine? Did you ever think for a red hot minute that your small minded friend from Annapolis may be the problem? Hmmm? Maybe we locals don't like uppity folks that come down and try to change our way of life to suit them, and then when we won't change it to suit them, they talk shitty about our home.

This thread brought back my first memory of when we moved to Calvert in 1998, and lived for 20 years. What was the name of the grocery store in PF that is, now, occupied by Green Turtle? I can’t remember. My first grocery shopping trip was there, and the elder guy check out clerk said to me after I told him we just moved here...”where did ya come from, and how many did ya bring with ya?” I was stunned at the time, but now think it was funny. I am a Southern girl, born and raised in Louisiana. Calvert was wonderful, and beautiful. Enjoyed every minute there. Moved for family reasons a couple years ago to MoCo. Does anyone feel sorry for me that I live in Montgomery County, now? Gives a whole new meaning to sanctuary. God bless Calvert, southern MD, and the USA!

So I've lived in Calvert County for about 9 years now. I'm originally from Baltimore. One thing I can't get adjusted too is the personality of people that live down here. Their behavior seems very naive and overly nice sometimes. It sometimes feels that many walked off the stage of the brady bunch. Some have a very limited view of the world, which consist of just Calvert County. I was talking to a parent from Annapolis who know this area and she said that many down here behave "entitled" and it makes it difficult when trying to work with them.

Is this a "suburb" behavior or maybe a "country" type of behavior?

Two things. Do you not like nice people? And, how do you know their views of the World? Do you ask them? Also, your confusion might be because of gerrymandering. It might be that you can’t get used to conservatives. And, the Annapolis parent you were talking to sounds like a self absorbed liar; as in an elitist. I hope you get over your culture shock. 😄

The nearest neighbor to my weekend place is just over a mile...
Calvert Co has a population density of 415 people a square mile, the county I'm from has a population density of 160 people a square mile, it is also one of the most built up. I am considered a city boy by the folks in the neighboring counties.

I've been saying this for years. The word is PASSIVE. Very passive area. And it can be frustrating. I too was born in Baltimore, moved to Calvert and now in St. Mary's. I've lived up and down the east coast, came back after 25 yrs and found that it's even worse now and it goes deeper then just residents. So I understand somewhat what you are saying. But I don't agree with the "entitled" thing.

What brought you back to the area to settle down?

You mean the existing group that complain about the Master Plan and Comprehensive plan because it's making Calvert less country? LOL
You do realize the rules dictating these plans come from politicians from Baltimore, PG and Montgomery County.
They dictate the rules for all other counties in the state.

One plan does not fit all. This is why our federal government is a democratic republic, not a democracy. Unfortunately at the state level it pretty much amounts to a democracy because power rest with certain counties and one party.

This is also why you don't want the federal government, or the state taking over healthcare and dictating what services will be available where.

My personal favorite is all the people who complain that there is congestion and "too many people moving in and making it less rural" and "ruining the country lifestyle" are often the same people who don't realize that their home and land that used to be worth $50K is now worth $400K because of those same people :lmao:

Wow, did a hit a nerve a bit.

You, as well as others want to bring politics into it again. What do you have against Annapolis people? How is one's opinion now considered a lie? Or maybe you just don't like it.

Yep, like those who hate Obamacare but know they are enrolled in a health program under the Affordable Care Act. Or those who hate socialism, but use mass transit and public libraries. :)

And anywhere else in the world. As soon as the location becomes more desirable so do the property taxes. If you are retired and have no kids, then it's best to maybe downsize or move to an area with lower prop taxes, lower cost of living. Since you don't need great schools etc...
