I give up, why do people behave this way?

And anywhere else in the world. As soon as the location becomes more desirable so do the property taxes. If you are retired and have no kids, then it's best to maybe downsize or move to an area with lower prop taxes, lower cost of living. Since you don't need great schools etc...
Tried that,,,,then people from Baltimore and Annapolis started moving in

Easy for somebody with no sense of community or family history to say.:yay:

My personal favorite is all the people who complain that there is congestion and "too many people moving in and making it less rural" and "ruining the country lifestyle" are often the same people who don't realize that their home and land that used to be worth $50K is now worth $400K because of those same people :lmao:

That only matters if you are planning to sell and move somewhere else. If you're a from-here and plan to stay-here, then selling your house for $400k doesn't matter if it costs you $400k to buy another.

So I've lived in Calvert County for about 9 years now. I'm originally from Baltimore. One thing I can't get adjusted too is the personality of people that live down here. Their behavior seems very naive and overly nice sometimes. It sometimes feels that many walked off the stage of the brady bunch. Some have a very limited view of the world, which consist of just Calvert County. I was talking to a parent from Annapolis who know this area and she said that many down here behave "entitled" and it makes it difficult when trying to work with them.

Is this a "suburb" behavior or maybe a "country" type of behavior?
No this is a NOT living in the hood behavior. We don't usually have to worry about shot in the normal course of our day therefore we feel good about interacting with our neighbors.

Your quote ( Some have a very limited view of the world ) Please explain why this is unusual for anywhere just not to Calvert County.

If you miss the good old Balmore you just need to spend some time in White Sands , CRE or Great Mills over in St Marys county. Waldorf or Great Mills road are most likely your best shot at getting shot . Hope that this helps.

I've been saying this for years. The word is PASSIVE. Very passive area. And it can be frustrating. I too was born in Baltimore, moved to Calvert and now in St. Mary's. I've lived up and down the east coast, came back after 25 yrs and found that it's even worse now and it goes deeper then just residents. So I understand somewhat what you are saying. But I don't agree with the "entitled" thing.

The "in-group" mentality in this post is interesting.

The entitled thing comes from people who grew up here all their lives, therefore they feel they have the highest weight to make local decisions. You put that against someone who's been here 9 years, and they look at you as an expat. It's a high wall to climb.

I used the Annapolis woman as an example, and I see the fact that I specified her location made people attack her on that basis. But I've heard similar things from people that came from other parts of MD to live here. One said it seems like people here "live under a rock". When I first moved (year one), we were invited by one of our neighbors to a "get together". The conversation was good, however when we were asked "Where we were from" and we responded with Baltimore, the reply was a snarly "Oh you're from there". We never had much conversation with the neighbors as both of them moved from that area due to retirement.

Because in your mind the only thing that exists in Baltimore is getting shot.

While I don't have family history in the area (this makes up a good % of Calvert residents), many including myself have a good sense of community. This is simply your poor mindset.

You do realize the population of the US increases year after year. This is due to immigration but mainly improvements in medicine etc...

I'm sorry, the world moves forward. It dosen't stand still for your liking.

Maybe Wyoming or some isolated area with no power/interest/water would work then. But then in 100 years people as well as those things would b there.

Not at all I moved to Calvert in 77 started a business and did pretty well here. I never have had the experiences that you have had with the locals but then again most of my experience is with the folks from southern Calvert.

You say that in my mind the only thing that ever existed in Baltimore is getting shot. NOT TRUE ! We used to go to Baltimore a lot, Orioles games, Colts games , Bullets games Stuff at the Civic Center , Inner Harbor , Steeltown , the Power Plant Boat Shows, Concerts, Martins West, Preakness many many things, still go to the occasional Ravens and Orioles game .

But the bottom line is that now Baltimore is a Shole City and you moved to Calvert to get away from it . Then you have the nerve to BH about the people . Yes there is a problem here but sounds like you are it . Welcome to Calvert County .

What a JA...People move into an area then want to know why it doesnt have, movie theatres, shopping, street lights, public water/sewer, free electric, paved streets, sidewalks, etc. All the amenities JAs like you moved to get away from. Now, your bitching because it doesnt suit you. F’it, move. Try NoVa, from your posts the life and people there are just what you need.

Baltimore is a great city and I have good memories there. Only those like yourself will have a limited view. You are like those that complain about socialism but use the public library. LOL

Baltimore is a great city. I moved from there because the schools were spotty and at that time. My oldest will began college in 4 years. By that time my youngest will began Middle School. Once we have used the necessary resources within this area, then we will downsize. By that time our house will have increased in price and it will become my 3rd rental property (2 in baltimore) :).

Maybe however, I don't see ANY of these people cashing out on all that equity to help improve the suffering local crab fishermen, local shelters, etc. It appears they are quite happy that their homes and land have scaled up in value due to all those "people who made everything bad."

The only hypocrisy I see here is coming from you.

This is me... "Southern Maryland is a great area, and I have good memories there".

Again, "Southern Maryland is a great area. I moved from the area for my job, for more peace and quiet, peace of mind. Southern Maryland was becoming more and more like the city, which I don't care for. So, instead of bitching, I thought I'd pack up my crap and go, which is exactly what I did. The schools in my new area are superior, but home school is what we're more comfortable with. At least, for the time being. I moved to an area where I also get more bang for my buck, a warmer climate, less traffic, and a whole new world, with new people that I will get a chance to meet, and maybe make a new friend, or two. If I don't, that's okay, too. People are different here, and the lifestyle is different here, but I would never change my experience that is Southern Maryland. Because, at one time, that was all new, too. I made some great friends there. Some of us had our ups and downs, but we all came out unscathed. We experienced life's lessons, and we moved forward".

I'm truly sorry that you are so unhappy with Southern Maryland. You're doing yourself a disservice by not giving it, and the good people who live there, the benefit of your consideration. No place in the world is perfect, but every place you ever go will enhance your life.

Baltimore is a S****HOLE that is why you left ! You couldn't cut it there so you moved out to the country. I moved here because I spent the summers here playing on the Bay, never wanted to live anywhere else. Plenty of nice places to visit in the world besides Baltimore , Haiti comes to mind.

I think we are talking about two different things here...

I don't have a problem with the way people act or how nice they are. I think they are very nice and the area is great for family living. My problem is with all the "These damn non-lifetime SOMD'ers are ruining everything good about MY town!" kind of people.
