Sure that works 99% of the time, but dogs do escape. All the time. Of course we know that this woman's dog was out and about all the time, but never was a problem.

A dog simply walking through your yard isn't/shouldn't be enough to shoot it. Bottom line.

The lost animals FB page this was on has exmaples of dogs getting loose just about every day. They don't get shot, and I believe 100% that if it were a Chessie, or a Lab walking through the yard, the guy would have never shot it.

I'm not sure what hysterical knee-jerk reaction is happening though as I haven't been following this. Can you elaborate?

I believe that as well.

Why does no one seem to care that as often-wandering dog, a breed that has a bad-reputation for lethal and near-lethal bites, is located near a daycare?

How smart is it to have a daycare "mascot" that is a pitbull? It's not, that's why.

If I were a parent, I would absolutely NEVER have my child at a daycare within near proximity to a pitbull, despite how cuddly, warm, and friendly it may be.

Has anyone from the Childcare Licensing Board, or whatever it is called, paid a visit to the daycare to see why they freely allowed a wandering, dangerous-breed dog around/on their property?

Because sometimes perpetuating a sterotype isn't the best option.

Yeeeeeah... I'm going to go out on a limb and say there's a lot of fear and misunderstanding about a certain dog breed inside some of these comments.

But go with me on this, please.

Let's play a "what if" game.

What if the pitbull had bitten one of the children in the daycare?

The audience of that scenario would be aghast, AGHAST, that a known danger was allowed....even encouraged....given the "mascot" title....and bit a poor defenseless little child. They'd also demand answers as to how it could have happened that no one took action to remove the dog from the premesis, knowing full well the reputation and documented cases of pitbul attacks. They'd be screaming "knowing the danger possible, why didn't you do anything to prevent this attack?".

I'd think that protecting the 8 kids in this daycare would be paramount to the story here. But that's just me.

What if the poodle had bitten one of the children in the daycare?

I know you love your pit, and that you think he is the best dog in the world. I totally get and respect that.

It is your prerogative to have a pit, love on it to your heart's content...(but not love on it too much, iffin' you know what I mean)...and give it doggy kisses all damn day long.

But keep your pit away from me, please. If I am out in a public place (aside from Petco and the like that encourages doggie visits), I don't want to be around a pit, and I most certainly don't want one around my son's daycare. But my feelings for dogs don't just end at pits. I really don't care for many dogs at all, mine included. And I absolutely don't think that dogs of any kind - cats, too! - have any business at a daycare.

I won't argue hypotheticals because it could go on for days, but if a kid was bit, charge the dog owner. According to the story, the dog loved the kids, and the kids loved it. Apparently the parents of the kids there didn't see a problem with it.

For the record, I'm, not advocating ANY dog be allowed to wander around a daycare. Of course, when I was a young tot in daycare, the owner had multiple dogs.

I'm just so sick and tired of hearing about how pitbulls are aggressive dogs that are about to snap at any minute. They aren't hand grenades.

I'll hook you up with a pit puppy... I'm telling you... it's da best!
And I respond in all seriousness, "please don't".

I have a dog now who is about 15 years old, and I can't wait until he is gone. And I sorta-kinda regret getting another dog a few years ago. I love her, but him....not so much. :ohwell:

:yay: Gotcha.

Are pitbulls vicious and do they attack, or are they the most amazing, loving dogs in the world? I don't want to find out, because I really don't want to get bitten.

my question is.... would this story have been so big if he shot a lab, a beagle, a small yappy dog?

Any dog can attack.

My dogs are the most amazing, loving dogs in the world.

Then again, I don't leave them chained up to a tree in my front yard throwing dinner scraps out for food. Never allowing them interaction with other dogs or humans. Those are the dogs (no matter the breed) that tend to go off when they escape.

No offense, but you remind me of this guy:

I'm under the impression that it could go 2 ways.

1). The dog would never have been shot.
2). It would have been bigger. I feel like more people are sympathetic to other "breeds".
