Wouldn't one think, with people like this just being able to live any old where, folks would keep their dogs safe from them by not allowing them to run loose? I have a dog and it's pretty easy to keep them under control. I do it all the time, every day - Apollo is never outside unless he is attended by me. Mostly because I'm afraid some crazy will come along and start feeding him or steal him, but regardless...

I think we all agree that, based on what has been posted and revealed, this is not a good guy upstanding citizen. So why aren't the dog owners being taken to task for allowing this person to get hold of their pet? Why are negligent dog owners awful horrible people...until something actually happens to their dog, then the person who ran their dog over or shot it or whatever suddenly become Satan and owner gets a pass?
And knowing that is one of the reasons Apollo isn't allowed to roam.

He is a runner as well, and I take precautions so that he can't get loose. He used to be allowed to run around Vince's fenced in back yard...until he dug under and took off. Once. He did that once, and now he gets tied up. In a fenced in back yard.

So how many times is acceptable for a dog to escape their confines before the owner beefs up security? The owners of that dog need to bear their part of this. I don't feel sorry for them, not one bit. They should have kept their dog safe. Would everyone be doing the same keening if the dog had been hit by a car? To me this is the same thing.
So there's the question:

Had this dog been hit by a car while running loose, would the driver be to blame? Or would you blame the owners for letting the dog run?
you HAVE to bring back the :like: button.

What about a deer?
I'm not sure a deer would kill a dog if it ran over one.....

Personally I wasnt talking about what you can legally do, but if you feel it's right to shoot a dog that isnt threatening you but simply passing over your property on it's way to elsewhere.

Growing up in rural VA, I was taught to keep my animals on my property and to shoot stray dogs to prevent them from running deer

So if someone shot Apollo for running onto their property that time he got out, you would be ok with that?

I hate to admit, though I have met people that live in Ridge, I couldn't tell you how to get there nor have I ever been there. What I have heard, though, is that many people take the law into their own hands and the local community has their own way of enforcing the law. One story I heard years ago involved someone that disappeared (a comparison to my reference to "shark bait") As in, certain people knew that person wouldn't be coming home for dinner that night...or ever again bacsue of something they did that pissed many people off.
All of those people who live in Ridge, who grew up in Ridge, and who call Ridge home must all be horrid people.

Ridge must be like old time Australia....where the nation, or Maryland, at least.....sends their most unsavory people who murder, cheat and steal amongst themselves trying to obliterate each other, along with their animals.

It's a good thing I no longer live in Ridge, because I just might be a little offended by that horrible generalization.

The dog in question was not a stray. It had an owner. What if one of your dogs got loose and I blew it away because it came on my property would you be ok with that? I mean after all it was a stray right?

So you're okay with the death threats against this man and his pets?

Some idiot gave out an address, saying it was this guy's. Several people afterward posted that that was his old address, so I'm wondering how many villagers showed up to burn out the wrong family.

The description of Ridge reminded me of places in Florida when I lived there many years ago. Tight knit communities; many with multi generations of families where things happened and nobody knew nothing. I didn't say it to offend you or anyone else and I apologize if I have. As someone that is not native to this area, my impression is that Ridge is not a place for someone to go and act like a fool.

No I'm not ok with that. I just think the law should handle it. But he stated that he saw the dog the night before and was gonna shoot it. Which leaves me to believe that he didn't even try to call animal control.

And his address is public record if you go on maryland case search. So any idiot can find it.

What's not mentioned is there have been HUge problems down in Ridge with Pit Bulls running loose. Just last year there was a pack of "feral" dogs running in Ridge to the point people were carrying guns when they went outside or went for a walk.. several people lost their beloved pets in their yard to these dogs. Animal Control was called, and they tried, but no relief.. they could not put the manpower or the assets down here to fix it.. locals took care of the problem themselves. That's how it's supposed to work, independent of government interference..

Lastly if you own a Pit, or a Rot you have to understand the reputation that goes with them and the fear most will have if they see one in their yard. If you can't secure your dog the death of the dog should be on the owner NOT the person who shot it

Unless you live down here and know the recent history of the "feral" dog packs.. you really shouldn't comment about how right or wrong he is... or how he should have called in the government to help. It was already determined the government was no help at all..

Ridge Runner should have known better than post it on the internet..

So you duck the question a second time. If your dog got out and someone shot it, that would be ok with you? Just answer the question and stop trying to turn it around on us.

What really passes me off is if this dog mauled a kid in somebody's yard everybody would be batching that nobody did anything about it, even though they saw the dog wandering free..
