Anybody get any good tips from the MSF classes that you can pass on to me? I really want to take the class ASAP, but it's just not possible.
Where you look is where you'll go.
( i.e. don't look down)
Every driving course I've taken has stressed that you should look as far ahead as possible and to look through turns (at or past the exit, not at the pavement directly in front of you).

Actually, the base safety course might be April at the earliest. The Harley/CSM/etc courses are also booked solid with waiting lists a mile long. Sounds like it could be an opportunity for a good business! Get accredited by MVA and set up shop...at a couple hundred bucks a person...$$$$$$$$$

Sadly, I'm nowhere near qualified to do something like that

Gear-wise I got:
Black Icon TiMAX Jacket (non-mesh...better for colder weather so I can ride later in the season)
Black Icon Long TiMAX Gloves (also better for colder weather)
Icon Mainframe "Manic" Helmet
Alpinestars Stunt Shoes (not for stunting...simply because they look like normal shoes)

Any recommendations for pants to wear over jeans?

Edit: Forgot to mention that I also got a yellow Icon Mil-Spec Vest...safe, but
Quit being girly, get out there and ride that thing

Base is a GREAT place to ride on the weekends.. LOT of empty parking lots, no traffic on the roads.. Take the road around the outer loop of the base and get some cornering in.

Get out and enjoy!!

First bike I took three or four laps around the neighborhood to get a feel for the brakes, and off I went..

Do what you are comfortable with!

Find a big open parking lot on bas after working hours and practice skidding the rear tire straight ahead when you are going 15 MPH. The LIC is a good place to do this. over by the outdoor pool. The point here is to keep it under control.

practice slow U-turns but dont use the front brake. matter of fact you should never be using the front brake when going REALLY slow in a turn. just the rear.

practice riding a slow circle in 1st gear and try to keep the throttle from chucking you around by having the throttle just cracked but you are completey off the clutch. this may be difficult depending on your jetting/fuel map.

Also practice in the parking lot going REALLY slow in a hard turn. first gear. feathering the clutch. no gas or just crack it. what you want to get to is riding a circle with the forks all the way to the steering stops. MAKE SURE THE PAVEMENT IS CLEAN BEFORE YOU DO THIS.

Also when you finally do the class, just remember they are gonna be busting on you to make sure you are looking into the turn. So exaggerate your head movements when you turn. More than you normally would. Not to the point where it LOOKS like you are exaggerating...if you know what I mean...

Keep calling Base Safety about the MSF course. sometimes people drop out at the last minute and they can squeeze you in there. The POC is Beverly Jeffas 301-995-4960.

Or you can find a MSF school in VA and head over there. It's the same course no matter what state you are in. I don't think MD has any restrictions on that as far as license purposes...

And if you don't know what countersteering is you need to find out pronto.

ALSO, i always just wore long johns underneath my normal gear. you can get electric socks too...and electric heated grips arent hard to install.

And heated seats, and electric jackets, pants, socks and gloves....

It's like a boat.. bot not AS big a money pit.. You can never own enough farkle for the bike..

I've got HyperLights for my brakes.. my biggest fear is getting rear ended while waiting to turn left on 235.. They light up the night.. MotoLights for the front end.. make me more conspicuos ... Reflector tape on my cases that glow white at night but you can't see them during the day.. reflective piping on the jacket and pants.. garage door opener wired to my four ways, so I don't have to dig for the remote OR stop the bike to get into the garage..

and the "want" list is even longer..

Want to do Rally's next season so hoping Santa brings me a GPS, with that need an RCU mount for the GPS, and Radar Detector.. Need an Autocom to wire everything to to feed the helmet speakers.. Cell Phone, XM radio, GPS, Detector.. so the list never ends..

You better be writing Santa a nice, long letter right about now, or at least looking up his phone number, because you ain't getting that stuff from me. :nono: I can't afford your expensive hobby.

*Found on craigslist*

DOCTORS:
(A) There are 700,000 physicians in the U.S.
(B) Accidental deaths, or medical misadventures as they are technically known, caused by physicians total 120,000 per year.
(C) Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.

MOTORCYCLES:
(A) There are over 6 million motorcycles registered in the U.S.
(B) There were 4,008 motorcyclist fatalities in 2004.
(C) Accidental deaths per motorcycle is 0.000668.

Statistically then, being treated a physician is 256 times more dangerous to the public health than riding a motorcycle.

Less than 2 percent of the population owns a motorcycle, but almost every has at least one doctor. People should gasp in shock, "You're going to the doctor? Aren't you scared???" Or how about, "I won't let my husband go to the doctor until the children are out of college"

I started out on a Suzuki GSXR -750...I bought it in winter time...it was comfortable, and cornered like no other bike Ive ever ridden...I just sold it not to long ago to some sailor...I put a full Yosh exhaust and a power commander on it..needless to say, the guy who bought, has already laid it down, tore it up...it was to much for him... an I had told him that before he bought it...but, didnt care...but a 600 is a great bike to learn on... You'll definitly like it...
