Kittens...

Dakota

~~~~~~~
I have 3 kittens that are looking for furever homes. These kittens are the result of the cat I have mentioned on here in the past being dumped off on our family farm. In the past, they have tried working with Animal Control to get her but we just have been unable to lure her in a trap. Whenever she has kittens, we snatch them up and try to find them homes. I am fostering these kittens in St. Mary's County, Mechanicsville area. It is possible that the father of this batch is a Maine Coon, so I personally don't believe Maine Coons/Maine Coon mixes are very good with small children.
If you are interested in giving one of these kittens a furever home, please send me a message. Out of the 3, the darker (male we think) is the sweetest and this one really deserves a home. One of the gray ones seems to be warming up and the other gray is going to need some more time. You will be able to spot the one needing more time when I post his scary picture. :ohwell:
*ahem* this is the grouchy one. It doesn't bite but just needs some time to warm up I think.
.... they are really starting to feel more comfortable. The one pictured in post #2 seemed to break last night and was enjoying being scratched, rubbed and even started to purr when my oldest son handled it. They are also okay with the dog being around.
Cute! The one in the bed looks just like my Tommy. It is like seeing him as a kitten all over again! :smile:
He/she will probably be the best one out of the bunch. CUTE!
These kittens have had no prior human interactions until they were captured earlier this week and at first, they all hissed at my MIL which made her fearful to handle them. The shelter will not even take kittens acting in that manner so my son offered to take them and socialize them. So far, he is doing very well with that responsibility. He is only 14 years old. The darker stripped male is very vocal, loves to play, loves to be snuggled on so that is a far cry from where we were a few days ago. He will make a great pet for somebody - tons of personality. The grumpy faced male is enjoying being snuggled on but just hasn't dropped his guard completely. His sister, the other gray female, is just a sweetie. The hissing is getting fewer and further between - almost non-existent now and they seem to huddle together less and less.
We have a 4th coming which we think is going to look like the darker stripped one. It is just they haven't been able to catch that one yet. We have feelers out to rescue groups in hopes we can participate in their events if our individual push to find homes doesn't pan out. We also are open to suggestions for names since they typically advertise kittens with names.
I really really want one of the kittehs. My kitteh, on the other hand, used very bad language when I mentioned it to her. :ohwell:
My advice, if you have a SHE, get a HE. They may not be best buddies off the bat but they will be in time. I have 2 females and they have moments where they are just nasty to each other and I want to strangle them both. :cds:
He really likes this 9 year old boy from across the street but his parents won't let him have him. :ohwell: They already have 2 dogs and the dogs have never been around a cat so I can understand the concern.
Here are a few more pictures... This is the striped male and gray female.
I have no bites on homes and have put in a few calls for some assistance. One being a vet's office that may let us continue fostering them while advertising for homes. It is just that all this is typically done through the Humane Society in Charles County but I tried calling all day long, no answer and no voice machine kicked on. The lady at the vet's office did admit that all rescues are full which is rather sad.
Hide and seek?
Well... he got a little distracted with the string hanging off our rocking chair soon after.
I see a heart-shaped pattern in their wet food. How cute is that?
These kittens are now the property of the Humane Society in Charles County BUT we will continue fostering them until they are big enough to be fixed (1-2 more weeks and they should be at 2 lbs.).... so if anyone is interested in adopting any one of them I will post when they will be available for adoption at the Humane Society. :buddies: Hopefully, I will have a 4th to add to this bunch once that last kitten that has managed to dodge us is caught.
The Humane Society was crazy busy today because there was no fee for any adoption - all cats and dogs were free.
Did you know that cats can have multiple fathers in 1 litter? I never knew this and they believe this litter has TWO fathers. Well... if that doesn't make my MIL's cat more of a slut. :drama:
Aww little darlings!
One of the 3 we have is was quite shy initially but she is warming up now too, but it has taken her several weeks. It is very frustrating when you can't catch the Mother. I know of several breeding Mama's outside.
If anyone goes by that liquor store/bar at the intersection of Brandywine Road and and RT 301/RT5, look around for a couple/few small kittens. Someone was able to grab one that had wandered into the median of the road. I've been up there several times already looking, but I can't find them. If you can get them, I'll take them from you to get them fattened up and vetted. Just PM me.
I am not 100% sure, but I think it's the same for Dogs. We had a Boxer that we adopted, and had no clue at the time, she was pregnant. She had 10 Pups. Some looked like Dobermans, and some looked like Labs. Some looked like Boxers too. Weird!
The 3 kittens we have now up for adoption that came from the same litter and they each look totally different.
Just 1 of those guys would eat these 4 and still be hungry. :ohwell:
That's right... I have the FOURTH one in custody now. :yahoo: My FIL got her trapped earlier today. She was not a happy camper at 1st and she did bite me when I moved her from his holding area to our carrier. Thankfully, I was wearing gloves or that would have fricken hurt.
I have to get her somewhat social before I can have her checked in at the Humane Society... I hope to do that Friday or Saturday but I will just have to see how it goes... I put her litter mates inside the carrier with her but the striped male didn't have time for that reunion and was off playing with some toys. Her grey litter mates did stay with her and they all slept for several hours. No sooner did they leave, she seemed unsettled but I wrapped her in a towel and put her back in the carrier. Soon after, she went back to sleep. I am hoping that if she sees how her siblings have taken to humans that she will move along a little quicker. I did move them into a spare bedroom with a TV on. I changed the channel from True Crime to a children's channel. I wouldn't want them to get any ideas. It is said a TV will let them get used to human voices.
