Wow... what wonderful words to read while eating crab and corn soup. :ohwell: Blah...

:killingme

:huggy:.... sorry. :jerry:

but its true.... most of the intestinal parisites we can catch from them... and you DO NOT have to touch the poo.... just touch where they stepped..

then it could be spread by eating something.... :cds:

I understand.... you have the kittens and are fostering them TILL they get adopted....

and had one mother to deal with. You are not paying for the kittens to be vetted or fixed right? (now you may have paid for the mother)

but Im not sure of many people that could take on the expense of fixing and vetting 3 - how ever many cats and kittens.

now if Socki wanted to foster the kittens thru somewhere that would pay for them.... that would be different. But she cant.... so... want some more kittens :killingme

No :cds:

MIL paid for her freeloader to be fixed out of her pocket and I signed the kittens over to the Humane Society and am fostering them back until they are bigger and more social. The adoption fee will cover the vet expenses (which is really a super deal).

The Humane Society of Calvert County has grant money available to spay and neuter all cats in the tri county area for FREE. Call Sally (for ferals) @ 410 257 5866 or Rose @ 410 741 0261 (for all others) NOTE: Locally participating clinics will provide spay/neuter services however rabies vaccinations are not included in this free service.

That is what I do, I adopt the critter out for the amount of the vet bill. I need to do some serious marketing to get these kittens a home because now I have 3 more that I caught at the barn to deal with.

I try to help people re-home their pets so that fewer go to the shelter. Taking any of these cats to the shelter just isn't an option for me. I calculated after I get all 7 cats done at HS it will have cost in total almost $900

It is not an option for me to turn them in unless I was going to foster them like you are. It would be nice to have HS pay for the spay/neuter. I am amazed at the number of people who scoff at the thought of PAYING an adoption fee when they can get a kitten free, just about anywhere, I've been told. Are these the people who don't take their critters to the vet? Is that how the FREE part stays free? The kitty comes with vet care done already :duh:

How much is the vet bill? I've seen adoption fees up to $300. I'm sure if you put the kittens on FB they will find good homes. :huggy:

but ..... will they get fixed?

when i had the kittens I only adopted out to people i knew that would follow thru with getting them fixed... as I didnt have the money to fix them.

that is the good thing about the HS.... if you sign them over and agree to foster them... the HS will vet them, spay/neuter them and also find them homes. (as people must fill out an app and pay the adoption fee)

when people go to the HS or tri county... they know they have to pay an adoption fee.

For this batch of 3 the cost per kitten is $120 - they have Distemper Vaccine, are spayed or neutered, tested NEG for FIV/FELV, dewormed as a precaution, and Frontline. Humane Society said they are too young to get a Rabies shot yet. I put their recent pictures here.

I can't stand it when people complain about the adoption fee. It includes spay/neuter, and shots. Sometimes, Tri-County gives them away after having spent a load of money for the proceedures. You are garanteed a Leukemia-Free, AIDS-Free cat or kitten. A regular Vet would charge you near, if not MORE than $200.00 for the spay alone, not including the pre-op labs they do on them. Correct me if I am wrong.

I find it amazing that they include so much for under $100 at both the shelter and the HS.

My fosters came back yesterday. They are scheduled to be fixed on July 11th and will go up for adoption after that. The last kitten in this bunch isn't as social as they would like her to be but there have been big changes since yesterday with her. Now, she isn't running away when a hand reaches out towards her and seems to enjoy being scratched. My husband sent me a text earlier (we are on opposite shifts this week) letting me know he played with her for a long time this morning (female Mackerel tabby).

The male Mackerel tabby loves people, even children and is doing very well. Our grey ones (we think might be forest cats/ Silver siberian mixes) love being petted but aren't big on being placed on laps for long. Our greys are almost 3 lbs. :yikes: If the father is the one my husband got a glance of on the farm, he thinks they could get pretty big (Maine Coon big which may be why my MIL thought they were Maine Coon mixes at 1st).

BTW, we named the very last kitten (the female Mackerel tabby) after her mother (MIL calls her Bella) since she is her very last kitten now that she has been trapped, fixed and released.

:YAY: Thank goodness you were able to catch the Mama.

The adult I caught and thought was a male (and also thought he was the FATHER of the kittens) turned out to be FEMALE and obviously the MOTHER of these kittens in the 2nd batch I have (caught by my barn).

I am hoping the Mother won't hold a grudge and will hang around when I let her go next week (had her spayed Monday). The Mother is Neg. for disease so I expect the kittens will also be, but you never know per HS - said each kitten should be tested. I like to keep the female ferals a while to be sure they don't need more vet help as they heal. She may never get into a trap cage again. Sure would be nice if I could pet her, but the stick I used to touch her with .. well she bit it several times - yikes. I won't be touching her lol

My 'grouchy' male, that ended up really coming around during his foster time, just got adopted. That means there are 3 left.

4-way if you count the Human Society - I am at a disadvantaged because mine cost $120 to cover the vet expenses we paid.

The 2 we took yesterday are both GIRLS! So Princess and Tigress are their names. I named the one Princess (gray and white) because when I put the paper plate down with the food on it, she reaches out to put her paw on the head of the other kitten to keep her from eating until she's done LOL - how does a kitten that small know how to do such stuff? LOL That is hilarious. Oh here is Princess and Tigress.

Ummmmmmmm........ My rescue's adoption fee is $125 so $5 more than yours. But same thing covers tests, spay/neuter, distemper and rabies if they are old enough. Mine are old enough and have the rabies :) Good luck to everyone on finding homes for their kitties!!!!!! :buddies:
