Ummmmmmmm........ My rescue's adoption fee is $125 so $5 more than yours. But same thing covers tests, spay/neuter, distemper and rabies if they are old enough. Mine are old enough and have the rabies :) Good luck to everyone on finding homes for their kitties!!!!!! :buddies:

oh let me add this - the 1st batch have not had their Rabies yet but Princess and Tigress were old enough (12 weeks) so they got theirs. We are going to pay for the Rabies for the 1st batch at the next HS Rabies Clinic. That way we can be sure it gets done.

Just kidding, she was released back out to our family farm. That is what my MIL wanted. She pretty much stays close by so she doesn't miss a meal.

Most ferals are released at their "home" site, otherwise many try to find their way "home" despite attempts to acclimate them to the new site by keeping them confined a few weeks/months. As long as their home isn't a dangerous place for them to be, it usually isn't worth relocating them and risk that they will be killed trying to find their way back "home".

Please no! lol

I have a slew of cats and kittens here! Have to have them all fixed! But first we have to capture them. Our daughter bought us a small cage (trap) as big as a cat carrier-regular size. Will this do?

When you capture a cat, do you have to put food and water in the cage for them, for as long as they are in the trap?
I am very confused as to what has to be done...

We are hoping to take them to Calvert, to have them spayed for free...did I read that right on another thread?

I wish I had a farm!!!!

My hubby wants to have them fixed, but he doesn't want them to be released back to our home. They really don't eat much (I don't mind feeding them) and I have grown attached to them...I know it is not a good thing for the cats to be dislocated, but I don't know what else to do?

I don't know either. If you were catching them, fixing them and releasing them back on your property, that is easy but I'm not sure if there is a place for them to go. You could call Animal Control and ask them. They attempted to catch our feral momma but were not successful which is why we ended up with so many kittens for a few years. :ohwell: But that is in the past and she is never going to reproduce again.

I went by the HS tonight and Bella is now gone/adopted and my description of her was very detailed (that was our last kitten caught). So there were 2 left in the cage (Sonic and Gracie Lou) and I should have asked if either have applications on them because another forum member seems to think she heard Sonic was adopted (so there may be a weekend pick-up on him??). What I find surprising is that Gizmo and Bella were adopted 1st and those are the 2 I was worried wouldn't find homes and Gracie Lou and Sonic are still sitting there and I was sure they would both be the 1st to go. Hopefully by Monday they will all be homed. :keepsfingescrossed:

After 2 weekends at the HS and no adoptions, the male tabby (Sonic) was sprung (he wasn't doing well in that environment as is and didn’t present as the friendly, playful kitten we knew him to be….) and now lives with us.

I still cannot believe the ONE kitten I was so sure would find a home didn't. I'm not unhappy about the situation... not at all…. but as fate would have it, the time line was 2 weekends, whatever ones didn't get adopted in our foster bunch were coming home either to our house or the farm. It just so happened that our favorite out of the litter went homeless while his 3 siblings all got homes...

To be honest, he got the home he wanted the entire time. It didn't take him long to become the playful kitten he was 2 weeks ago and hopefully we can get his weight back up (he lost a little while there).

We've got a girl kitten that I was sure would have been picked by now but she hasn't. I have never in my life seen a kitten so outgoing and playful. She has no fear of new places or people at all. She will grab your leg and start kicking with her back feet - it's so hilarious! She is just full of energy. We'll see how it goes as the number of kittens drops that we have. I don't want to end up with ANY though. We have enough foster cats now that we stay quite busy, and don't have space for new fosters.

Got a picture of the little guy?

Of course I do

The cat in the picture is our brat female, Mina... She acts like she hates the kitten but she came outside and sat a few feet from him and watched him. I think they will be BFF's in time and she is just making the kitten know she's the Queen. Our dog and older cat has no issues with the kitten at all.

Our wild child kitten looks remarkably similar - actually we have 3 that look very similar - like the Mother.

I think people have a set color in mind when picking out a kitten and I'm not so sure personality plays a great deal into any of it. The HS has kittens for $10.00 and what is left? The ones that aren't as pretty and as colorful as the rest. The HS has an amazing all black kitten that has been there for well over a month with no home not to mention several other black kittens sitting homeless. I was told that all black cats often get put to sleep because nobody wants them. Sonic was caged in with the all black cats.

I have an all black kitty with an attitude (former feral) that isn't always the nicest playmate with her other kitty friends. I feel really sorry for the black cats, same happens to black dogs :bawl: . I got a black dog at the shelter .

Some people are superstitious about black cats.

Until I saw my panther show up at my former home, I had never seen such a deep black kitty before. She adopted me apparently, and I used to keep a kitty house/bed under the horse trailer in the driveway for her to be out of the weather (bed was on a lipped plastic tray to keep bed her dry). Now she's a house kitty - why you ask? Because she kills every critter she can catch outside (some were beautiful birds) - bad kitty!

Yeah I had one of those (fly hunter) in the bathroom with me last night - that fly in there didn't have a chance LOL

A trick I started in the Spring when flies first appeared: pick a place to hang a fly stick (glue on short stick sold in TSC) and hang it near a light. Turn the light on to attract the flies and they get stuck to the fly stick - works great in my house. I don't mind leaving the hall light on now and then to catch flies <G>. Once flies have been caught on the stick, I turn off the light. One fly stick can last all Summer if you don't get too many flies in the house.

A friend of mine read where you put four pennies in a sandwich-sized Zip-Lock, half filled with water. We hung them in the windows of the garage, which is where the flies liked to hang out. I hate seeing fly poo on the windows. It really does work. Don't ask me why though.

That is worth trying.

I read online that the home made mosquito trap made with yeast, brown sugar and a plastic soda bottle doesn't really work. I think I may try it anyway since I bought two of the 2-liter bottles of soda to try it.

I wonder if anyone here tried it?
