Let's talk about Christmas decorations

People could leave them up all year and that wouldn't bother me one little bit. I think they're festive, and god knows we could use some year-round festivity.

My issue is with stores pushing Christmas on us the day after Halloween. It's not festive, it's just crass commercialism and bullshit and they do it because the sheeple will obediently buy a bunch of crap they don't need for a holiday that's still almost 2 months away.

But if you want to put up lights and a blow up Santa in your yard, knock yourself out. And if your neighbors gripe tell them to STFU, ignorant Grinches who think they can tell everyone what to do.

My only decoration is a 2' ceramic tree which was handmade by one of the vendors at the Charlotte Hall flea market years ago.
I have one of those, with colored fiberoptic lights, that was made in Columbus, OH.
Bought it at the KMart near Dayton where I worked in the mid-90's.

I use to feel that way..now I appreciate being able to get my shopping done while the shelves are neat, tidy and plentiful. I dislike waiting to shop when stores are crowded. Shopping early I can take my time and not be pushed through the stores. I dislike people, and avoid all I can.

I've been buying one or two ornaments a year from the Ann Marie Gardens gift shop. I don't hang them on my tree, they go on suction cups on a many-paned window, so they can be seen and admired.

Had a customer that used to give us a White House ornament every Christmas. I have continued purchasing them myself, love them!

I have a box of small balls/teardrops made in Poland in the 50s that I bought from a customer's estate sale. I've never displayed them, didn't want them broken. Over the summer I picked up a wire 'tree' I'm going to hang them on to display on the piano top.

My nativity is huge, that set that so many mom's 'made' in the 70s, when ceramics was all the craze. White glazed, love it.

And I make a wreath from crow foot gathered by the swamp.

I love Christmas decorations!, but they don't go up until after Thanksgiving.

If I may ...
For your consideration ...

I wonder why folks celebrating a Christian Holy Day, buy stuff made in a country that actively suppresses religion.
I wonder if those that get Christmas day off have a sincerely held religious belief that Christ died on the cross for our sins? And if so, they must fully articulate that sincerely held religious belief. If not, off to work you go, no time off. Kinda à la covid BS.

I'm not a Christian, but do appreciate that the majority of my fellow citizens are.
If my employer was open that day, I would work.

As much as I hated to do it, I started putting Christmas items in my shops at Chesapeake Marketplace more than a month ago. I have sold a fair amount of vintage ornaments and decorations and jewelry already. There is still a fair amount of inventory to include a ceramic light up tree and a blow mold Santa (both of which were really hot last year) in addition to more mid century ornaments and hand made ornaments and sun catchers made with chandelier parts, crystals and glass beads.
As in when I had my retail store, I know if you wait too late, you miss a lot of opportunity to sell.

I just hope that people will decorate and put up lights outside. The last time inflation was ridiculous like this (think 1970s) a lot Christmas decorating didn't happen. We like take my mom around to see all the lights.

Christmas Eve use to be the day...but now..because I love Christmas so much..sooner the better. I like real trees but found one that looks real online.. delivered to me a few days ago... it's beautiful. I took it out of the box when arrived to check it out. I refuse to take apart and smash back in the box.

There's a house on 235 as you get into Hollywood that always was lit up and the tree decorated in the window for awhile during the summer. Not sure if they still do or not but it's been very recent. I always wondered why.

I stopped in Michael's today and they have Christmas music playing. No wonder people hate working retail!
I stopped in there the other day to get my annual fix of Scandinavian looking Father Winter figures.
Found 2 I liked, though one was more Gnomish.

I got Cindy Lou Who, too, as my dad's cousin June Foray was the character's voice in the Grinch.
June said she loved working with Boris Karloff.
