Md Passes largest tax hike in history.

Well this is what you get from a Dem nanny state government, it's basically stripping money out of your pockets to try to educate the unwilling and provide food, housing, and services to those uninterested in working. I saw a bumper sticker a while back that summed it up "Work harder!- Millions on welfare need your money".

The governor loves to make token reductions so that koolaid drinkers like Xaquin will think they actually care about the people.

And the gas tax will NEVER decrease, as if taxes ever do.

I'd like to know how we went from a surplus to almost 2 billion bucks in the red in ten months!

Ye gets what ye votes in!
This is too easy.
Glendenning, remember him?
Spendening passed the Thorton bill that pumped some 2 billion plus dollars into the baltimore city schools right before he left office, the problem is that he never got funding for it. So here is this 2 billion dollar bill sitting there with no money to pay for it.
Ehrlich never gave Thorton a second look since it was only for baltimore city and not for the good of the state, so again, it went another 4 years without funding.
Now along comes Omouthy, and suddenly he is concerned with funding this bill, and he claims that the deficit that this bill brings with it is Ehrlichs fault, He fails to mention that it was spendenings admin that created the mess in the first place.
anyway, Omouthy decides to fund this thorton thing in an attempt at securing the balitmoron vote next time around, and he does so by taking money from other things like county schools, police, fire etc... now, after doing this, the state is in serious financial trouble because it is not able to pay for these services that he raped for thorton.

thus, the tax hike is for all the services he took money from to pay off thorton in hopes of getting the baltimoron vote in his pocket.

without thorton the state would have been in very good shape.

First of all, Black Cherry Koolaid is awesome.

Second of all, I know good and well that no polititian cares about the people. I didn't vote for him so you can stop playing the halurfalurf Xaquin voted for OMally cause he was fooled halurglemurf.

Third of all, it doesn't matter who gets elected, people will still have both legetimate and illegitimate gripes with them (this being one of them).

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I got stationed at Fort Meade while Glenspending was Guv. Didn't pay attention to the politics here in Maryland until I retired and my pay got taxed to death. From what you're telling me, the state went into a deficit within minutes of O'Malley getting elected.

I like the new taxes. This way maybe O'Malley won't get reelected.

What makes you think that?

O'Malley will get elected as long as he wants to BE elected. Ehrlich was a fluke and, if anything, just proves what a dork KKT was: the first time in 35 years that a Republican had his butt in the Governor's seat, and she was the one that made that happen.

Ahhh, it all makes me feel better about my decision to move the heck away from MD in a few years when I retire. I think I'll go online and try to find one of those stickers. That's a good one.

So...

Businesses look elsewhere to expand.
More people become dependent on Government agencies/State run schools.
Houses are facing higher rate of foreclosure...thus counties do not profit from collecting taxes.
The state cuts park staff, closes parks, and raises a boatload of new fees.
(Tourism declines)...hotel fees surging too.
Property values fall. Yet property taxes nearly unaffected.

OK...and why would a thinking person put us through this?
POWER: keep pledging programs to fools that can't take care of themselves.-They will keep handing over their liberties to those who quietly dream of a socialist society.

Exactly..... I didn't vote for O'Malley and frankly, his election was so close that had Erlich had the side of the State Government workers, I think he very well could have been reelected. But I warned people then that things could very well get worse if he was voted out and they indeed have.

As a state employee for the past 20 years, I'd sure like to know where all this fricken money goes because I'll guarantee you one thing, it isn't in hiring or even retaining employees in the offices where services are needed and expected. The short handedness in the state government offices is by far, the worst shortage of staff I have ever seen.

20 years.... and nothing comes even close. I just got back from hanging out with a friend of mine and she was telling me the stack of foreclosures in one of the tri-county area offices is UNFRICKEN REAL. She flat out told me.... we haven't seen anything yet.

I realize education is an important expense but there is so much waste in the educational system I could scream. Don't believe me, go dumpster diving on the last few days of school, and I say this because I do believe expenses could have been cut in some areas. He should have gone over that budget with a fine tooth comb and if it wasn't money spent for roads, state services (tax collectors, law enforcement, etc.) or education the expense should have been cut. I am starting to think things ARE going to get worse. Much worse.

It's not only the state experiencing problems within government. Charles County is losing senior administrators in droves. The Commissioners don't listen to the people and don't want to be held accountable. They spend our money like water. This behavior was predictable. Take for example the Virginia senator-elect's comment: "Now all of Virginia will have to accept that Northern Virginia's transportation problems are Virginia's problem. And they WILL be FORCED to pay for them." How arrogant.

The issue is not republican or demacrat... The problem is spending... If you want services you have to pay for them. The problem with spending is across the board not devided by parties. .....

not quite correct.
the wasteful spending is in a large part due to democratic programs.
health care is not something the government should be involved in.
welfare should be cut, public housing should be cut, social services should be cut.
thorton should be thrown right out the window without a second look.
public transportation should support itself instead of being shored up by the taxpayer.
short of infrastructure and defense, the government has no place in any of societies issues.

Thank You Gov. OMalley.
You will be in my thoughts next election.

Doesn't matter. The undocumented workers will register to vote when they get their Maryland drivers license. They'll vote for the guy that gave them de-facto legal status, feeds and educates their kids, pays their doctor bills and tells the cops to leave them alone.

Cops don't have a choice but to leave them alone, they barely have enough now and they want those they do have writing traffic tickets for revenue, and shesh, if they are on parole/probation, they will get lost in the 350 PLUS people caseloads. Don't even dare ask for a hearing about your asinine tax assessment bill because with an average of 7 bodies short per office, you will be waiting an awful long time for THAT hearing. And while we are at it, lets add an additional charge to child support collection accounts since they only have roughly 1100 cases per worker to attempt collection on. If they want, they can file paperwork with District Court for a child support hearing, they are only short 10 bodies.

I say come on Maryland, lets put all our crazy people on the street without proper mental medication and be more concerned with throwing more money on stem cell research and education that is just in an incredible state. We cannot fix education if we don't throw money at the problem. :sarcasm:
