Morning-after pill to be available without prescription

they'll still be using your tax dollars for their HIV prescriptions they'll need while on Medicaid.
Are you serious, you think that if they cant get this pill without a perscription, then they are going to be AIDS infested Medicaid leeches? :lmao:

Its not going to encourage more people to start hittin the sheets with no protection. Because thats what most people use it for..PROTECTION FROM DISEASES. If someone doesnt want to get pregnant they take the pill.

Ok...so let's think about thins for a minute. If you're referring to a low income society...well do you think they are going BUY the over the counter pills :killingme Uhhh....NO. AND if the medicine is available over the counter then federal programs such as medicaid will NOT pay for it. Back to square one.
So what's the difference then, besides having better access to it?:eyebrow:

I agree! And i hate the name of this pill "the morning after"

You mean the minute after?? How many of these girls are actually in relationships to use this pill?? Doesn't teach anything about responsibility.

The pill is 89% effective if used within 72 hours of the "oops". They DO NOT advertise it as a cure all. It's an anti-pregnancy pill. That's it. It's not an abortion pill. It's not an anti-STD missile. And I would imagine that it's still going to to cost more than $1, keeping most 14 year olds from stocking up on it.

I think it's a good idea, and it's been a long time coming. Think of how many JPC's this could have prevented.

Better...hmmm. I guess we will have to agree to disagree. :huggy: I just don't view this as "better access". The difference as I see it is that this medicine needs to be prescribed by a physician to patients that it is appropriate for...not purchased and used by just anyone over the age of 18.

When was the last time that you were able to get an appointment to see a doctor within 72 hours of the phone call? Something tells me that a request for this pill, does not warrant an "emergency", unless rape is involved.

Why not? You're legally an adult at the age of 18, can't these legally recognized adults make their own decisions? Why would I want someone making my 'big life decisons' for me?

Are you against the 'condom' too? Sponge? O-ring?

Wrong my dear...that's why they have urgent care and after hour centers. That's how this medicine first started being dispensed in the USA. It's not a new concept. GYN's have been using oral contraceptives to produce a "morning after" result for YEARS.

I think its a great idea. Condoms do break.

BUT~ I see this turning into something bad. I can see guy telling their girlfriends. "I dont need no condom baby you can take that pill" If this happens, STD's will go crazy.

I like knowing that if a condom breaks I can take the pill if I am worried about being pregnant again. I just dont like to think about all the young kids and how they are going to use it.

So then what wrong with dispensing it over the counter, eliminating the middle man, and to a smaller extent but still helpful, congestion in the doctors offices?

Forecasted to be $30.00 per pill. I think it's about time it was released OTC. It will prevent doctors from injecting their religious beliefs into someone's personal life, I am thinking specifically of that case in PA I believe where a woman who was raped could not get a prescription for it from the doctor who treated her because it was against his beliefs. Hadn't she been through enough w/out worrying out pregnancy?

The difference is simple...condoms, sponges, and such are BARRIER methods. They are not an ingested medication :howdy: There potential serious side effects from this pill.

If you dont think this pill will decrease STD awareness your fooling yourself. Instead of being concerned about catching a life threatening disease, she'll be more concerned about getting pregnant - but wait!!! She'll go to CVS by this pill and say "yayyyyyyyy im saved" - not knowing she just contracted HIV - and there is no "morning after pill" for STD's.

It may not encourage the youth to not use protection but lets just say they wont think twice....and stats prove that with all the single mothers and young teenage pregnancies.

Your right, but its still not something I want to see happen. Its the same thing as " dont worry baby I will pull out" Girls will always fall for that crap .

It should be OTC to stop doctors office from being flooded with the same women come back for the pill over and over again. However, I still dont like the fact that anyone can just go buy it....As many as they want as often as they want.

Age limits? Yes. But when has that stoped anyone before?

Toxick

Splat
So what happens if a girl takes, say, 15 of these pills all at once - just to make sure it works?

Will her guts shoot out of her bottom-end like a sea-cucumber?

I think that the danger this pill poses as well as the potential for its abuse should be considered before allowing this medication to be available in CVS next to Cherry-chapstick and Extra Strength Tylonol.

Exactly, the problem will still continue. Those who don't want to use a condom still won't. They'll pull the ole Austin Powers, "Only sailors use those".

Have you ever read the side effects of this medication?

Now you have to look back to the thread with the heated abortion conversation.

This pill could keep babies from being born into a family that doesnt want them, and could do awful things to it.

Still doesnt change the STD thing...
