If you dont think this pill will decrease STD awareness your fooling yourself. Instead of being concerned about catching a life threatening disease, she'll be more concerned about getting pregnant - but wait!!! She'll go to CVS by this pill and say "yayyyyyyyy im saved" - not knowing she just contracted HIV - and there is no "morning after pill" for STD's.

It may not encourage the youth to not use protection but lets just say they wont think twice....and stats prove that with all the single mothers and young teenage pregnancies.
What are you doing to increase STD awareness?:eyebrow:

Exactly, the problem will still continue. Those who don't want to use a condom still won't. They'll pull the ole Austin Powers, "Only sailors use those".
Yep!

Its a great idea, for women who take care of themselves. Condoms DO break.

I think the risk of a huge STD outbreak from kids not giving a d@mn outweighs the good this thing can do.

Today you dont have to do much.

You cant watch 30 minutes of TV without seeing a Herpes ad.

I think schools should show the same pictures the military shows.

Very graphic and very very nasty......

I think that the danger this pill poses as well as the potential for its abuse should be considered before allowing this medication to be available in CVS.

It was considered:

Today's action concludes an extensive process that included obtaining expert advice from a joint meeting of two FDA advisory committees and providing an opportunity for public comment on issues regarding the scientific and policy questions associated with the application to switch Plan B to OTC use.

Yes, this drug can be abused, but so can Benadryl, Sudafed, diet pills, Tylenol, laxatives, and almost any OTC drug.

Where do we draw the line? How much babysitting do we need?

Such as...?

I've read nothing serious as of yet, please enlighten me.

Basically the morning after pill is a high dose birth control pill (GYN's used to have women take 3 birth control pills at once). http://www.webmd.com/content/article/125/116116.htm
The side effects from birth control can be serious...pulmonary embolisim (blood clot in your lungs), stroke...and smoking increases your risk. I have seen patients present with these conditions secondary to oral contraceptives. It does happen. Physicians screen patients for risk factors prior to dispensing medication.

You make a good point.....But.. if young people wanna get messed up or try and kill themselves with that stuff....what can you do.

This pill is going to make kids think they dont need condoms.....

And thats exactly why some of those are placed behind the counter and in lockup.....

If we have to babysit our youth - so be it. the morning after pill is like taking 2 BC pills 3 fold. The major risk of BC is blood clots. Poppin em' like candy or every week is bound to do some type of damage to a young womans body....

Have you ever read the side effects of this medication?

Tylenol has side effects, as does Ibuprofin and any other medication out there. Cholesterol meds cause flacid peckers. Viagra causes headaches.

What's your point? We are faced with the same question everyday for every med out there, and basically with ANY decision made on a daily basis: "Can I live with the consequences if I..."

Ok...as long as it doesn't happen to someone in your family I guess it won't matter to you. :yay: Perhaps we should just put ALL drugs in the drug store and let people self treat and medicate :sarcasm:

I know nothing
I dont know what you all are getting bent out of shape for. What eveyone is arguing about at this point is hypothetical.

The pill is not availible to minors yet..... however "The manufacturer, lawmakers and other advocates said they will press the government to allow minors to purchase the pills over the counter." Your issues is with them

Let us not forget that Teens arent using condoms as it is now.... Thats why teen pregnancy and STD's, especially in this area are so high....

there is nothing wrong with this pill. at least there is an option. And Its not like they can by a bottle of 250 for 5 bucks like they can a bottle of vitamins.

Why not? I understood the necessity of condoms when I was a teen ager.

Again, this pill is not advertised as an Anti-STD med. Kids are well informed, from what i have seen, about STD's.

The dumb and the ignorant can't be helped, no matter what. And today, kids think ORAL sex, isn't sex. "It's ok babe, go ahead and swallow. Just take the pill, and you won't get pregnant."

Sounds like we're still speaking of 14 year olds. What happened to the carding to ensure your age of at least 18? Although 18 year olds can be taken for immature, they're clearly not as caveman-like as to think that they won't need condoms for protection. If you have the guts to actually ask the pharmacist for the MAP then wouldn't you at least have a split-second thought in all that running around to know that this only prevents pregnancy? As I said earlier, if they don't use a rubber they deserve to suffer the consequences.

Yes, there are some well informed kids.

How many do you think there are? I think there are more girl falling for the "i'll pull out line" then there are girls that say " Hell no, you wrap it up"

Now we can add " You can take the pill" to the "i'll pull out line"

" baby you wont get pregnant, i'll pull out and you can take that pill"

You know good and well that minors will still gain access to the MAP. BUT I agree that people need to be responsible enough to use condoms...and the lack of that desicion means they deserve the consequences.

Your right, BUT....Are they just going to sell this pill to women, or are 18 and 19 year old guys going to be able to buy this for their 15-17 year old girlfriends.....(lovers)
