SV650. try to find one with some track goodies on it like upgraded suspension...

I'm thinking:

Suzuki SV 650S
Suzuki GS 500F
Kawasaki EX 500

One of the older 600s. A budget would help.

http://www.cycletrader.com/ is your friend. Get somebody who knows what's up to go with you and look at the bike.

Be careful about spelling when you are searching. Whenever I am looking hardcore for a particular model, I will try alternate spellings to get good results. IE, ZX-10R and ZX10R will yield different results

Ok ive been looking around and id like some riders opinions now...

List off some nice beginer-intermediate bikes for me.

FYI im not into the "Harley" look, i want a sleek sport bike maybe around 600cc

If you want to get a great, old-school bike on the cheap, look for a mid-80's Honda Interceptor. They made a 650, but the 500 was a smooth little piece. Neither one should cost more than $800 in great shape. You won't be winning any races, but it is a good bike to cut your teeth on. And if you dump it, c'est la vie, step up to a late-80's Kawasaki Ninja, then step up again. Only after you have littered the highway with footpegs, exhausts, and carpels can you zero in on your true 'dream bike'. But by that time, the Electra Glide is looking real good.

:yeahthat: i second the notion on the interceptor.

At 6'1" I would suggest skipping the EX500. I'm only an inch taller and found that bike to be straight up cramped! Never sat on a GS500F but the SV fit nicely.

Suzuki Boulevard is excellant.

Call GEICO for your insurance also, cheapest in town.
Do you have one? I looked at it, liked it and thought it would be light enough for me. The one I looked at was white and it was oh, so purty.

You want reflective index....go buy some SOLAS tape at one of your local boating outlets. This is the stuff they put on the personal flotation devices so they can find you adrift in the high seas in the dead of night. That stuff will light up quite nicely!
DUH!!.. Now why did you think of that before me??

Caity and I are going to help sail the 44 ft Yawl back to the dock on Sunday.. She's never been on it, and can't wait to see her little self working the winch..

That Suzuki SG500F looks nice...

Those Ninjas are looking good too...

I second the vote for the SV650. They can be found only a few years old with less than 5000 miles for $3500. I rode one home a few years ago for a friend of mine that bought it for his first bike. 5 years later, he still has it. That bike is FUN! It's light, has enough power to get out of it's own way on the highway, sporty, but comfy seating position, and comfy for tall riders.

the SV650 is a nice bike but i like the front end of the SV650S ALOT better. i dont like the dorky headlight on the SV650.

Nice bike too though, It helps that its a Suzuki too ;) I LOVE Suzuki's

And from whence will ya'll be sailing this yawl? Be sure to get pictures of her working the winch! I have seen some beautiful ocean going sailboats the past few weeks. Sails tight in the wind, crew scurrying about the decks. The stark white of the sails against the deep azure blue of the puget sound!

Kathi is posting the photos from the trip on smugmug. Once she has them loaded, I will let you know!
