Gotta wonder why they haven't. It's a kick ass engine, but the ergonomics aren't the best.
Air cooled engines aren't going to last through many more updates of emission regs.
Not true. Buells are already far exceeding emmisions requirements and are expected to meet/exceed emissions req's with no changes to engine or engine management at least thru 2010.

Harley's been using cats on the California bikes for years and haven't had any problem meeting those strict air quality req's.

Actually its the Liquid cooled models that are going to have the more difficult time meeting air quality reqs. I'll have to try and find the articles.

Ha, if you know that a Vrod is liquid-cooled then you must've done some research about this particular Harley. By looking at your avatar (full face helmet) you don't have the appeal/fit the description to ride one either :p Continue to ride your Japanese GoldWing with your headset talking to your fellow Deutsche BMW rider while I pass you with your ole lady on the back :howdy:
You had me up to the passing part..

I thought it was funny that those of us that prefer riding other brands must have had our asses kicked by a Harley rider to not want to ride them! :killingme:

Either that or just enjoy people not appreciating nor looking at your bike since it has no appeal. Oh and BTW, it seems as though you chopstick users are jumping on the bandwagon by copying the looks of a Harley so that more ppl will buy them.

Wasn't URAL born from stolen BMW motorcycles during the war?
Not that this has anything to do with Gary buyin a new bike... :lmao:
Yep, and also a chinese bike fashioned after the

During World War II, BMW moved their motorcycle plant from Munich to Eisenach, Germany, to make more space for aircraft engine production. Eisenach later wound up in the Soviet-occupied zone of Germany.

The Russians unbolted entire assembly lines and took them home with them: There was enough stuff left in the German plant to build the BMW R35 350cc single, so they were produced for a short period in the plant, with a tank badge that said "EMW", but that's another story.

The Russians selected the best stuff, and went into production of the Ural bikes. They used the engine from the famous WWII BMW R75M military bike in the frame of the pre-war R71 to make the motorcycle in the (above) picture. The Ural Sportsman with the driven sidecar wheel essentially is an DR75M.

It's not that they are looking to CHANGE their motorcycles to get Harley riders to buy them, it's that they are ADDING styles to appeal to MORE riders, thus MORE sales...something that Harley in all it's grand stubborness refuses to do.

And just so there's no mistake, I ride a Harley and Buell. I'm stubborn too.

BMW R bikes are aircooled and meet all emmision requirements.. they take a hit in performance, but they have a three way catalytic converter that makes it one of the cleanest machines on the road (compared to cars and trucks)

Honda's were originally manufactured in Ohio? So I'm guessing that Suzuki's are manufactured in CT and Yamaha's in KS now too?

I believe that my bike was manufactured in York, PA(could be wrong though)

I'd love to see Harley come out with a 4 cylinder sport bike and show the world American Ingenuity and Engineering can compete with anything the Japanese or the Germans can put out (using less then 10,000 cc). As it is now, it has the appearance that they know they can't compete so why bother trying.

I would like to think there is an engineer in Harley SOMEwhere that can design a true superbike that would rock the world of motorcycling.

BMW broke all of their rules just to show they could compete with Suzuki and Kawasaki. I would love to see a K1200S type of ride with a Harley log on it. There's nothing wrong with keeping the classic bike, the BIG V-Twin, but give us something else too.
