New Businesses Coming to Southern Maryland

Man, you gotta go back and read what the other guy said that you responded to. He was being sarcastic as he said he'd rather see the ran down firehouse and dilapidated shopping centers instead of more convenience
My apologies to all involved. The smell of fresh fried chicken was clouding the brain.

The Willows, Kevin's, then Kamira's Vine, or something like that. Helen's Café will be opening up there soon.
The Willows is the one I remember. What a stupid place for a restaurant. Who wouldn't prefer to be up the hill in Leonardtown?

Even so I'm amazed at how often - when armed with such data -

They STILL MANAGE to open businesses that fail within a couple months.

If there's such a thing as a "hot spot" for business - there's an equivalent "dead zone" for places where businesses always seem to fail - at least, if it is the SAME kind of business. I am not sure what it is about Wildewood Shopping Center - but it has a long list of businesses that fail THERE, but flourish elsewhere.

I think the weirdest thing I saw - which I am guessing isn't going to happen - was the place where IHOP used to be - a new restaurant called "Scramblers" was going to be built - another restaurant specializing in breakfast.
That won't be open in time for breakfast for a lot of us.

You have to remember, it took YEARS to revitalize Leonardtown as to what it is today. I think Willows did pretty good for a while, until the owner in the wheelchair became more than intrusive with his guests. I can’t remember his name (@vraiblonde ? ), but he’d get pretty drunk and pester people. It happened to me once.

Loved him with all my heart but he had, um, boundary issues.

And geography still plays a part. Right now, if someone lives in Hollywood or California - and just want to go out - the easiest choices are right there along the strip near Colony South all the way down to the base. More or less. You need to be somewhat exceptional for people to go out of their way to visit.

Or have a nice spot on the water.

I told my son - when we drove past it yesterday - that the old CVS is actually in a fairly nice spot for a restaurant - highly visible, decent parking, easily accessible. That area next to Bruster's, which is coming up on I don't know how many years to develop? It's awful. It would have to BE GOOD for someone to make the effort.

I’d much rather go out of my way for a nice restaurant rather than a chain. They are ok once in a while. But with a young picky family, it’s probably not worth your effort. 😊

You know - about 20 plus years ago, I had this thing about not going to chain restaurants, probably because I believed deep down they were always going to be inferior. I recall just - refusing - and I was going out with a former girlfriend who LOVED going to them, so I compromised -

By doing exactly what she wanted, which is the way it usually works. My wife still does. Maybe there's comfort in knowing exactly what the items on the menu will taste like.

But I have also been to Mom and Pop's that are - awful. To put it mildly. And dirty. There's nothing inherently "better" about a restaurant that isn't a chain. They're just as likely to serve their appetizers from a frozen bag and a microwave.

What sarcasm? Their money, their investment.

You see the same thing in every thread. "We don't need another (fill in the blank).

If you really didn't want something, voice your concern at planning board or zoning meetings. After that it's a done deal.
The post was total sarcasm aimed at those who oppose anything new here. Competition brings better prices usually. I see it in NC in the prices of the local BJs when close to Costco versus another BJs without a nearby Costco. Convenience is also key. Living off Willows the RF is more convenient than driving up to the Wawa across from Kohls (the Great Mills rd gas stations are a no-no late at night).

Not to long ago, there was the Mother's Day brawl in our local Applebee's and it went viral. No thanks. The last time I was at the Frying Pan, I refused to eat because there were flies all over the place. No thanks. Nicoletti's used to have roaches on the tables, windows and walls. No thanks. Ledo pizza had a live worm in my salad. No thanks. Whatever it was on the 235/4 corner before WaWa was built was disgusting with sticky carpeting. Pax River Ale House (previous name) had a murder in the building. WaWa and Starbucks have had people OD in their bathrooms...

Thought the murder was in the parking lot?
