Kevin had a loyal clientele. After fighting mightily during Covid tp keep the place open, I think he got tired and said f'it.

Kevin's would have been the ideal restaurant for the Ltown Wharf but the town/county wanted a big financial investment that wasn't feasible.

The Willows lot is cursed, on an Indian burial ground or something. It was a bunch of things before it was Willows, then Willows went through several ownerships before Nucci bought it, then it was a bunch of stuff after that.

Not to long ago, there was the Mother's Day brawl in our local Applebee's and it went viral. No thanks. The last time I was at the Frying Pan, I refused to eat because there were flies all over the place. No thanks. Nicoletti's used to have roaches on the tables, windows and walls. No thanks. Ledo pizza had a live worm in my salad. No thanks. Whatever it was on the 235/4 corner before WaWa was built was disgusting with sticky carpeting. Pax River Ale House (previous name) had a murder in the building. WaWa and Starbucks have had people OD in their bathrooms...
Corner of 235/4 wasnt it a Western Steer?

Down near the intersection of Rte 4 and Rte 5 - I forget what it used to be called - but they failed.
.
I've lost count of how many different operators have been in that building over the last 40 years. When Nucci was running it as the Willows it did do well. The newest occupant is "Helen's"...a well-regarded family-style place that was located in the now-demolished market in Mechanicsville. Not sure when their opening is but it must be soon since they've got a small billboard sign up, alongside the road. And breakfast...they serve breakfast...

Kevin's was SO good when it was in town,,,,, something changed when it moved down to the Willows building. I hope Helen's can make a go of it there although no one recently has been successful.

Has anyone been to the new seafood place in the old Slice House which was the original Kevins ... ?

I hope so. Menu seems a bit pricey, I think I saw $15.00 for a bologna sammich. :shocking:
Saw that. 12 bucks.

While I am getting used to restaurants charging above ten bucks for a single burger or sandwich, the idea of everything costing almost twenty bucks isn't getting me out there often. It better be a damned good sandwich. Subway alone has sandwiches about half that.

Every chain has blasted prices through the roof! Even the chain fast food places. Hell, a burrito supreme at Taco Bell used to cost $2.99 not too long ago. Now, it is just under $10 each. Same with McD. Burger entree is almost $10.
Doesn't stop the masses from lining up to shove them into their faces though and THAT is the only thing that will force a change. Stop eating there. But, when it comes to deciding between not paying the overage and doing some home cooking OR being lazy and coughing up the increased prices.. people will chose lazy 99% of the time (and then complain about prices)

I'm not convinced that any of those options are the primary reasons - for me, I generally don't like fast food - but when I am 3-4 hours from home, or traveling it's the cheapest option. When I have to choose between my son missing a swim meet at 6 or serving him dinner at 4 (because special needs, he eats very slow) - I opt for fast food on the way there. I pay the price for it - because my choices are limited.

I don't like it - but I don't have a lotta choice. I like cooking at home, but it's not always the best option.
