I get it. People die and it's horribly tragic what happened in this case. Beyond comprehension. But if it's the friend of a friend, of a friend, of a parent... is it really necessary to get so overwrought that you can't even function?

Come sit next to me : pats seat:

Why put politics into this and say it’s DEI?

Because if it's someone who wasn't qualified for that job but was put there because of politics, that makes it politics. Which would also mean the DoD effectively murdered those people and heads need to roll.

Do you want your pilot to be skilled, or do you want them to check an identity box?

Why did Trump go straight to DEI? Does he know something no one else knows - yet?

When tragedy like this happens, I can generally think of only two causes - an unexpected event - like a lightning bolt, or a bird strike or that sort of thing - or error - on the part of SOMEONE. Challenger was caused by an error in the DESIGN. Other accidents happen because of carelessness in things like, maintenance.

The accusation of DEI goes straight to the issue of why conservatives oppose DEI - it puts someone in charge of something who is not qualified to do it based on their knowledge and skill. Thus, leading to mistakes, sometimes serious ones.

I have read a number of speculations on why it happened, and what mistakes might have happened - but as of yet I haven't seen one attributable to someone placed in a position via DEI making an egregious error.

Admittedly, this has always been something about Trump I've never been fond of - the quick to run his mouth thing. It's precisely the thing he complains most about the left and their allies in the media (except they often persist in it even AFTER knowing all the facts).

That connection thing has irritated the f*ck out of me just about everywhere I've lived. San Diego, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Orlando, Houston, Tulsa, and elsewhere.

I first noticed it in San Diego when that passenger jet went down in the Potomac in, what, '82? The news stations in San Diego were all "a local connection with the tragedy in DC since a local woman's ex-husband's elderly great uncle's adopted daughter was listed among the survivors."

You get the idea. Even the most tenuous of connections is played up in the media, and it has always pissed me off.
When it includes people from your community, even if you didn't know them, it hits home a little more. It makes it more real and relevant to your life, than a far-off tragedy.

The egregious error is that competent candidates for ATC jobs were not considered due to the FAA holding out for "box checkers".

I get that, and I don't disagree. I'm personally referring to those who are acting like Selena Gomez and posting ad nauseam about their sorrow for people they don't really know.

And IF it turns out that the Military pilot was a "Checked off identity box" type of person - then their incompetence will also, ultimately, be the cause of all the collateral damage and expense.

The expense to ALL the local law enforcement, fire & rescue, governmental and other agencies involved. There will also be a real physical and pyschological toll on all the personnel involved. It could all be "blamed" on that 1 incompetent person.

THAT I have seen. What I have NOT seen, is that THIS ACCIDENT was the result of a DEI error.
People can still make mistakes and NOT be DEI hires.

You folks are painting yourself into a corner, basically if a tragedy or accident happens and a white straight man is involved then it a very sad incident. Otherwise it’s incompetence, how can anyone but a white straight man then be trusted to do anything?
