Police Officers Acquitted

Well...

And I think we owe it to you folks!

...it is totally unreasonable to expect cops to be far more...passive... in dealing with potentially nefarious rapscallions and expect you people to make make split second, hi tension decisions because you are expected to damn near wait until you're shot or stabbed to react and not, at the very least, get you the training that will not only help keep you alive, but allow you to make less mistakes that, if you're wrong, might get you thrown out of a career or, worse, if you're right, but not ready, you don't go home that night.

That's true for a lot of agencies, however some are a bit more progressive. My agency has everyone qualify once a year, however we are required to do additional training drills with other than static targets.

As I uderstand it also the days of shoot once per year and call it good are being phased out, which is good. It is also a good idea, in my opinion to allow a more personalized fit for your carry weapon as you said. I know some agencies, say, for example tell their officers here is $600 dollars for a duty weapon. You can select from Sig, Glock, Berretta, Hk, S&W.... anything in .40 or .45. Go get whatever you want as long as it meets that criteria.

...everyone carries a .45 1911 or a lead sap. I want everyone shooting the same ammo and able to share mags when the jihadi's come again.

NO GLOCKS.

Well then everyone will have low capacity mags, and only be able to use ball ammo since most 1911's don't reliably feed HP ammo without some work being done.

No thanks, I'll stick with the more modern designs.

See that is where Glock would be the perfect option, the Glock 17 for example is their full sized, " o no he didn't" 9mm with a 17 round mag, the G 19 is a compact and is ideal for a woman or a back up handgun, it has it's own mags but accepts the 17 rounders too, and then there is the sub-compact 26 that accepts the same mags as well. Glock ingenuity.

...right. 230 grain FMJ, 7 round mags. Nothing fancy.

9mm with a 17 round mag,

I see that as the reason this case caused so much of a media frenzy. It seems like it is too easy for cops to throw lead without making their shots count.

If each person had been shot two or three times, and the four cops had fired 15 shots, would this have been such a big deal?

Joseph Guzman was shot 16 times, yet he is alive to testify. Would that be true with a .45 ACP?

Well, you're wrong. It amazes me that you bash police and police departments when you are one yourself. You come on here and either lie to people or are so uneducated, spout out about things you don't know. Why don't you check with your surrounding jurisdictions to see if people carry the same firearm? At least one other jurisdiction in Southern Maryland is a bit more progressive, and does supply firearms to fit the shooter. Also, at least one other jurisdiction in Southern Maryland does have alternate training, such as moving fire, firing after building adrenalin, and transition drills.

Hey, Barney, where in your statement do you prove that what I said was wrong? Other than the fact that I probably should have included the word "most" in front of "departments". In your own words in a later post you admit that your department only requires yearly qualification.

Here is where you are wrong.

One of the major reasons a lot of women struggle is due to the department bean counters insistence on everyone carrying the same type of firearm. Because of "bulk" discounts departments will only purchase and furnish one type of weapon.

I know it is difficult for you to have intelligent discourse, especially when you are wrong, but shouldn't you use the example you told me to set in the past? Why the insults Don? I wouldn't think that you would be so openly hypocritical.

Now with the Barney comment, you might want to re-think that if YOUR police agency only lets you shoot at the little peice of paper there Sgt.

what is with warning shots

CNN TV says THE JUDGE acquitted them because two of the witnesses had prior criminal convictions and there were holes in other witnesses testimonies.

I can understand warning shots - but 50 rounds?

Justice was not served.

Please people ......Warning shots do not exist. Police academies do not teach warning shots. Officers don't use "warning" shots. :smack:

Thank you. I wasn't going to point out to the guy that a warning shot has the potential to hurt or kill an innocent. I don't think this guy is going to get it anyway, but good information on your part.

I understand the need to monitor and control the purse strings, but there have to be times when common sense HAS to prevail.

I think it's more than just bean counting. Uniformity is important and keeping an inventory of parts, supplies and ammunition is important. IF money was no option maybe. But money is always a problem. For everyone who can't qualify there is gunna be another who can.

Well a 230 gr. projectile is better at pentrating barriers better than 115, 147, 165 or 180 grs. But as far as wound channel and expansion, it is so minimal that it dosen't make a huge difference if you are using 9mm, .40s&w or .45acp.

AR15.COM

I think that is a poor argument for carrying lower capacity magazines, because the general public thinks the cops shot too many rounds? What the hell does the mostly uninformed public and MSM know about this topic? Not much....... I can tell you that.

Okay, you've already said it was wrong. You haven't explained how it was wrong, so you must have misunderstood my question. Perhaps I didn't phrase it properly. So let me try another way. What, specifically, in the statement I made was wrong?

I asked him about that earlier and he still hasn't answered me. So I'll ask again. Hey Andy, where would you suggest the officers aim their firearms when they fire these warning shots that you are so adamant about?
