 Bloodhounds slap hard, just wait until she becomes very comfortable with you! You are on my couch- slap! I want you to pet me-slap! I just feel like giving you some love - slap! They are the most loveable dogs but they really have a mind of their own.
.

OMG! She already does that. She slaps me around all the time.

I will be sitting on the couch watching tv when I have this feeling I am being watched, all it takes it eye contact to start up his barking and slapping. He is not even allowed on the couch nor could he get up there with his old crippled self! It's just the principle in his mind. They are stubborn but oh so loveable.
My catahoula does that. He'll slap, then rest his paw on my leg and give me his pleading face, willing me to read his mind. If he's particularly worked up he throws in the "talking".

:buddies: mine does it too, but she's not particularly vocal about anything. We have been teaching Havoc "high five" and he'll out of the blue smack you in the head thinking he's going to get a treat... :killingme

Christy, any new pictures? How's Patton doing?

Exactly! When he is really aggitated while resting his paw on my leg or arm he will flex his paw a bit so I can feel his nails.

Well he is only doing what you taught him! After you get up off the floor will you then get him a treat? :killingme

Just got back from the vet and Patton has a pretty severe case of pneumonia. :frown: He's on meds and hopefully will get better. I always wind up with the very expensive animals from Tri-County.

Oh no! Did they explain what to feed him and to keep him hydrated? Pedialyte, etc. and to feed him things like rice, even baby food..things easy on his belly? You can also thump on his chest to loosen the mucus in his lungs...steam is good too. :yay:

I had kittens earlier that had a bad case of pneumonia (got it from where they were neutered in Waldorf) and they were really, really sick.

Monitor his temp too.

She told me to feed him whatever he would eat, which right now is nothing. :frown: He won't drink either. I keep trying different things. Chicken broth was my last attempt. She rehydrated him but if he hasn't improved any by tomorrow I will take him back. He is pretty sick and may wind up being hospitalized if there is no improvement within 48 hours. She showed me how to thump his chest and did say to stick him in the bathroom with us when we shower. He's on clavamox and baytril. She gave him an injection of antibiotic but told me to still hit him up with the pills too. He's not too fond of me right now for shoving my fingers down his throat so he won't spit out the pill.

Anyway, that's about all the news. He's in laying by Momma resting up.

Get pedialyte..plain..use a syringe w/o needle or an eyedropper. Just put it into the side of his mouth and dribble it in there...not too fast, don't want him to aspirate it. He has to have water/pedialyte...very important. Even tuna juice...

You can also give him a little Karo syrup..put on your fingers and rub on his gums...keep his sugar up. :yay:

I don't have any of that. :frown: I will make a trip to the grocery store tomorrow.

She did run a bunch of tests and his blood sugar is good, as well as his red and white blood cell count. He also doesn't have a fever so she says that is a very good thing. We just gotta clear up those awful lungs.

Maple syrup will work too. It can help stimulate his appetite too.

Great on no fever. Keep checking it...

Food while sick

As you may remember, my Vet suggested boiled Chicken, and Rice. I used the stock from the boiled Chicken for the rice. She really liked it. She's doing good now. Another Forum person said to be careful with using Human Electrolye fluids for the Dog, as they are different. Good luck, and Well Wishes for Patton.

Never heard that...pedialyte is used routinely for kittens/puppies. Perhaps IV fluids?

If she doesn't have Karo syrup, would disolving a bunch of sugar in water work for rubbing on gums? It is the sweetness to stimulate the appetite right?

Catt got me through my panic with my sick kitty and she knows her stuff.

:huggy: great that you do whatever it takes .....

the cat I got there looked horrible but she looks great now. She was apparently allergic to flea bites, and most of her coat fell out.

When I took her back to Tri-County for a visit after a few months they couldn't believe she was the same cat. I was like - yeah this really IS the same cat amazingly.

I bet love and meds will have him better in no time.
