I've heard a few fundamentalists call Caucasians the Tribe of Shem, Africans the Tribe of Ham, and Orientals the Tribe of Japeth. It sounded to me like Noah's three sons looked like the kids from the crappy Captain Planet cartoon.
Din'cha just love the fact they had one person from each race - Caucasian, Asian, Native American, African - and an extra white chick, just as to not p!ss off the Communists?

I thought there was some incident at the Tower of Babel where everyone started speaking different languages and turned different colors..... Am I misinformed? :lol:

Nothing about race, in that story - only language.

And yet, Luke 3 claims a mere eleven generations from Noah, to Abraham.

Are we to assume in such a short time, all the world's races appeared?
Why not?

Why Christians would want to impose the limits of our understanding on God or creation is beyond me.

Do what :confused:
Our understanding is never limited. Just yours !

I don't make excuses for the Bible. I just believe it.
Genesis 1:24-31

26Then God said, "Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth."
;

Did anyone else notice this :confused:

Who is us :confused:

I copied this from post 20 I only highlighted 3 words and I just confirmed it in the Bible
This statement is made in the verse before God created man.
God created Man in Verse 27.
I sure hope someone has a logical explanation because the implications as I see it means more than one :whistle:

So much for limited understanding .
I wish I could be a sheep, but unfortunately my mind won't let me be one.

Good catch. I can't tell you how many times I've read that passage and that has never before stood out. What does it mean? More than one god? Did "the" all powerful god need help from his angels? Questions, questions.

Another thing I find interesting.

Ask a hardcore christian about the beginning of life, and life as we know it today. They will tell you how this "perfectly balanced" planet was created. They will often go on a tangent about how as humans we can not possibly comprehend the power and knowledge of God, nor fully understand how such a place could be created in six days. We simply don't have the brain capacity to understand such an event.

Yet, ask them about the possibility of evolution, and suddenly you hear things such as "impossible". So all of a sudden, humans CAN understand the workings of God and can say what he can and can't do. :confused:

If you don't want to believe in Evolution, that is fine. Just don't contradict yourself and call it "biblicaly impossible" because as a true christian, you know such a notion does not exist.

Is this a missed translation over the years?
"16God made the two great lights, the greater light to govern the day, and the lesser light to govern the night; He made the stars also. "

Which light is for night? The moon? The moon isn't a light, it produces nothing.

The great light during the day IS a star.

it would be interesting to understand the original writings to see if this distinction really exists

:yeahthat:

And Smalltown, what you said, was something we talked about Monday at the Pub. Not the stars but the issue of light. Could the days been longer in the beginning?

Good thing the bible was not written by people living at the poles. Talk about really screwing up the whole light/dark day/night stuff! :crazy:

Yeah. People will look for any excuse not to believe the Bible especially when their life does not agree with what it teaches.

That made me laugh. To me, that basically says, He's talking to Himself.
:fixed:

He can. Don't you at times? Don't we all at times?

The Bible does say that Jesus existed before creation.

Gumbo, first you believe and then you doubt and then ... seems you are tossed about like a cork in a stormy sea. You might want to take these to heart.

Ephesians 4:11-16

<sup id="en-NASB-29284">11</sup>And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, <sup id="en-NASB-29285">12</sup>for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ;

13until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ.

<sup id="en-NASB-29287">14</sup>As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming;

15but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ,

16from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love.
James 1:5-7

5But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all generously and without reproach, and it will be given to him.

6But he must ask in faith without any doubting, for the one who doubts is like the surf of the sea, driven and tossed by the wind.

7For that man ought not to expect that he will receive anything from the Lord,
