30% maybe legal gun owners but I think that stat is incorrect. During this whole Covid panic quite a few of my antigun friends chose to arm themselves . It's funny to hear them talk about how they really haven't changed, and they can't believe the cost or availability of ammo.

39% of American households have a firearm in them.

Of course Montana is #1. Many Montanians live off wild game they harvest themselves.

I am not surprised that my birthplace of the Communistwealth of the Paystate of Taxachusetts is dead last.
Nor surprised Vermont is not in the top 10. When we went to college there in the late 70's, firearm ownership was estimated at 3 million for a population of about 600,000. That damn Bob Newhart show and carpet bagger millionaire socialist from Brooklyn attracting all the damn flatlanders, diluting the true nature of the state.

Just based on what I have seen and read, a lot more people are claiming MUCH more than a 27% increase in their billing. Most are at least double. Could be these people are inflating numbers to make a point however, I agree that something is not smelling right with this whole scenario.

@Gilligan has opined that he believes SMECO did an estimate to generate his bill this month.
I did? We have a digital meter.

No way possible that the old way of estimating and then correcting power useage could generate a one-time monthly use error of TWICE any previous useage for the same month, going back many years.

The digital meters have a readout and what I'm pretty sure is the instantaneous KW use is stuck at 15.27 kw, even with everything shut down. Has not moved one bit since we first discovered the problem with our bill. That's a whopping big number if it just sits there 24/7 and gets summed up.

Shouldn't an "estimate" be based on previous usage? Or factual numbers? Doubling a bill does not seem like a logical estimate.
You would think they would base it on previous usage, but doubling it makes the math easier. Besides, you don't know if the complainants are being truthful in stating how much their bill is.

I knew you had said there was some sort of hinky-ness going on. I stand corrected.

I had not really paid much attention until this new rate hike, UNTIL TODAY! I just saw what I paid last month.

Almost 50% higher than last month and 30% higher than the same month last year.

For shits and giggles I used their new rate comparison tool to see what I might save by switching to their off peak rate billing.

Woo freaking hoo! $15/FIFTEEN DOLLARS PER YEAR (ESTIMATED)

What cracks me up is all of the people who think they are going to beat the higher gas prices by buying a super expensive electric car. Wait until the electricity prices keep going up and it then costs as much if not more than gas.

The state's reaction to all of this is to tax us more so they can increase funding for the 'poor' people who can't pay their electric bills.

Little wonder the politicians and their useful idiots in the media so 'focused' on Ukraine right now.

I see the day when there will be a highway tax on our electric bills, maybe even a special tax if you have a car charger installed at your house. If we are all driving electric cars, how else will the roads get fixed? Maybe a title tax of 12% instead of 6%? Or do electric cars not cause pot holes? We will somehow pay for the “savings “ of electric over gas vehicles, we just don’t know how yet.
