I'd say the air on I 97 is cleaner then the air in a smoke filled bar.

I'd be way more afraid of keeling over from carbon monoxide poisoning on any busy urban highway than I would be in any smoke filled bar.

I think smoking should fall under the right to peacefully protest. If someone chooses to smoke its their right. If not, then its their right not to. Regardless, the right should not be infringed upon because this country is on this new wave of banning crap. Next its chewing gum- you chew gum, your going to jail. You can only chew gum in your own home. Im not a big fan of people making laws telling me what I can and cannot do, its only going to lead to more restrictive laws on everything else.... you let it slide with 1 freedom and then another, and another until you ask yourself is there anything that you can do legally anymore?

The reason I say its a peaceful protest is because, people who smoke are protesting. they are clearly upset and stressed about something, adn they feel the need to smoke a cigarette. Without these cigarettes, they would be wild, out of control, and every single day would be drama filled and possibly a police report. The people who wish to ban smokign are the same who tried to criticize that marlboro marine in fallujah (the photo was in the new york times, and the kid was smoking a cigarette. he had ash, blood etc on his face). They tried to say something about him smoking. I am sure lung cancer was the last thing on his mind...

This is the whole thing of it for me.

I feel the same way about drugs and booze and everything else.
I don't do drugs, I almost never drink, and I don't smoke.

But I hate it when the nanny state tells me that I can't if I wanted to.

It makes me want to start smoking, drinking and snorting the coke, just for spite.

Well, as I sit here, smoking maybe a Camel Turkish Silver or a Newport LIght, or a Djarum Clove Vanilla or Camel Turkish Jade or a plain ol' Marlboro or a yummy cherry or vanilla smoke, or perhaps a Nat Sherman Mint or a Marlboro Menthol Light.... I think to myself, this is my enjoyment. I abide by the rules of other folks' homes, public buildings and being around those sensitive to smoke.

Anybody wanna guess as to how I feel about this movement? I may only smoke less than a pack a day - sometimes more/sometimes less; that is MY business.

I don't feel well when I am exposed to smoke, even for a little while. I also feel quite sick with certain strong perfumes. But, I deal with it, quietly, and without imposing my difficulties on others. I avoid restaurants/bars where there is smoking, there are other places to go. If I can't avoid and elevator with perfume, or someone elses smoke, I leave as pleasantly, and as quickly, as I can and get fresh air and soon feel ok. What's next? People are allergic to peanuts, are we going to ban them from restaurants? No more flowers on the table, they might make someone sneeze?.... :bigwhoop:
Natural selection would take care of this if the do gooders would just but out

Exactly..

I have no problem with anyone smoking, it's their life, their lungs and their money going to pay for it, and in return paying $1 something in taxes that I don't have to pay.

But just like car stereos, or neighborhood stereos.. I don't care what kind of music you like, listen to whatever you want, but I don't want to hear it, don't force me to listen to it.

Here's my view. At least I've picked my own way of going to the grave. I don't worry about getting mangled in a car accident, getting shot at the mall, falling through the ice and/or drowning, getting VD, falling down an elevator shaft, having a tornado carry me away, going psycho because I got red karma, getting e-coli from eating a dang salad, jumping off the bridge to get even with a SO, having a tree fall on me, falling while trying to get into the tub and busing my head, slipping on a banana peel, being electriculted doing home repairs or having the life beat out of me while walking the bike path. I just going to sit here in my place, smoke up a storm and read the forums until I can't do it anymore. See how simple life is, my mind is now at ease just knowing.

It makes you giggle that pinheads think it's their right to flick their butts at my car?

I had a car once with a moonroof. There was jerk in front of us that deceided to flick her cig butt straight up. It landed on the hood of our car and rolled up and over. If we had our roof open it would have come and possible caused a fire. Now there's something to giggle about. :smack:

Excuse me, dear, but I PAY for my health insurance so I think I have a right to use it. Ever wonder why the Lefties don't insist that those who *don't* pay for their health care (read: the ones who REALLY cost the rest of us money) be forced to adopt a healthier lifestyle, put down the Doritos and smokes, jog every day and eat more fiber?
I am well aware of the purpose behind the lefties and their “Universal Healthcare” plan. That’s a different discussion. I’m addressing the fact that smokers somehow think they have the right to make other deal with your toxic addiction and the trash.

Here’s what kicks me about this whole smoking thing… Smokers drive down the road smoking with their windows down because they don’t want to – what? – get the smoke in their car? Help me out here Vrai…? You’re sucking the crap into your lungs and worried about getting it in your car? For what? Are you worried about breathing in too much smoke? Are you worried about stinking up your car? Note to Vrai and all other smokers: your car stinks and so do you. Then, to avoid stinking your car (and yourself) further, with dying embers and for fear of dirtying your car up with butts you flick it out the window. I just want to know who you smokers think you are that you must flick your butts out of the car, at 65 mph, making everyone behind them wonder if that butt is going to either go in their window, get stuck under their car, ruin their paint, start a fire, what-have-you…? Not to mention it’s just plain trashy. It angers me in my daily one hour commute to work I have to put up with these pinheads’ constant bombardment of burning trash.

And I hate to tell you, but every time someone has to make a claim for health insurance that is of an exorbitant cost, that causes everyone else’s (under that company) go up. You can’t tell me your health insurance premiums haven’t climbed. So pay up dear. Oh, and if you smoke, you WILL get to “have your right to use it”, you can be sure of that. And you better be prepared to take into account that all these baby boomers (which most of them smoked) are soon going to be forced off their healthcare plans and onto Medicare. Can’t wait to see how that will affect my taxes.

Let me say that I don’t care if you smoke. I don’t want you to smoke but I certainly don’t want the government enacting laws that prevent you from smoking. I just want some freaking common courtesy from you smokers. Stop thinking that that every ounce of air within a 30 foot radius of you belongs to you. Stop thinking that you have some right to risk other’s safety all because it’s too much of a problem to keep that stinking butt in your own car where it belongs. Is that too much to ask in this I-don’t-give-a-crap-about-anyone-but-me world?

Don’t bother answering that Vrai, I think I just did.

If it aggravates you that bad, call the cops. Advise them that several laws are being broken (littering, attempted arson, wreckless endangerment, attempted murder). Im sure someone will get around to it, consider we live in Maryland and they are busy dealing with the large amount of criminals roaming wild and free. If all else fails, sue their ass!

YAY! A medical person! Because I have a question:

How can you tell if something is smoking-related, second-hand or otherwise? Because I've known women who had breast cancer who never smoked a day in their lives - the cancer would obviously not be "smoking-related".

So when a smoker gets breast cancer, how do you know if it's because of the smoking and not for the same reason the non-smoker got it?

This is a serious question, not an attempt at scoffing.

He's gonna' tell you she was exposed to second hand smoke.
