The Rev. Jerry Falwell is in gravely serious condition at a hospital in Lynchburg, Va

I cannot give him credit for using the pain of 9/11 for his own personal and political gain. He was completely justified to have his own opinion, and to eventually voice it, but less than 48 hours after it happened was just wrong.

It is rare of any public figure not to inject foot in mouth from time to time and whether agree or disagree he does have a large following. I can think of worse people who inject personal views other then Jerry. Certain American Muselm leaders come to mind. :coffee:

Fair enough. When I die, if you want to start a post expressing disdain for my views that would be fine with me.
I would not do that.

I am saying that disdain, disrespect of those that die is reaching very low. I would hope that most are above that.

It almost seems it is a contest to see who can be most crass on this board. I hope that people really are not that way.

I had zero respect for Falwell while he was alive.

This is the man who said:

"If you're not a born-again Christian, you're a failure as a human being. "

and

"I think the Moslem faith teaches hate."

and

"I believe that global warming is a myth. And so, therefore, I have no conscience problems at all and I'm going to buy a Suburban next time."

I could go on and on and on with Jerry's "Greatest," but I hope those reading this understand that this man, dead or alive, was a hate filled, narrow-minded bigot.

I feel about Fallwell's death like I would feel if Al Gore died: nothing. Bye bye, hope it was a peaceful death and he didn't suffer too much. It's bad luck to trash a dead man.

Of course I'm also the one that said GOOD when Herblock died.

Coming from you, this post is freakin' hilarious!

On topic, the world is a much better place without Rev. Falwell...one less advocate of hatred and intolerance.

...serious?

How in the flying hell do you people not blow an absolute gasket over Muslim fundamentalists when you see a man like Falwell as a 'hater' and 'intolerant'?
My God, man, he's got his faith. He never advocated hacking your fool head off if you don't see things his way.

What the hell.

His joy in the pain of 9/11 and his willingness to use that for his own gain proved to me that he is not worthy of any sympathy.

His hate filled version of faith is not something most rational people would support.

...if you read Osama's fatwah against us and any number of other radicals opinions of the 'Great Satan' they state in their own words it is our lack of faith and our free lifestyles that they fear are attacking their culture. They are fighting Hollywood a hell of a lot more than Falwell ever did.

Same amount of respect I have for your opinions.

Rev. Falwell probably didn't even know you were alive, but you knew he was.

Who said I don't hate the Muslim fundamentalist nutjobs??? I hate the nut jobs of all religions, equally.

I do take notice that, in America... if a Christian preaches exclusion and hate, that seems to be just fine. However, if a non-Christian does the same, everyone's ready to murder the guy.
