I believe the issue these days involves the new lessons regulations and mandates pushed forth by the state in order to support the mandatory testing (who's results affect funding for the school system) that you and I didn't have to go through back in the day.

And yet we managed to get an education without all that bureaucratic garbage!! It's a miracle!

Aside, back in the day the 4-H kids got out early for fair prep - they didn't let everyone out. Any the few kids who complained about it as unfair were told, "Tough noogs. Raise some livestock and crops and you can have a day off, too."

they are. apparently some people work under the delusion that just because the kids have the day off, the teachers do too. the vast majority ( if not ALL) early dismissal days are only early dismissal days or the students. Teachers are still at school working. many of the fridays off that people are complaining about are only of for the students, teachers will still be in their classrooms, attending meetings or even attending conerences out of town.

Yep, and let's not forget the level of effort required after hours to grade, document all grades, and support after school functions that would not be able to occur without teacher volunteerism and participation.

Yeah, that's why we don't see BuddyLee on the forums very much since he started working at school last year.

Teachers 30 years ago didn't need extra days to get their work done.

And again, teachers 30 years ago never had a problem with this.

Last I heard he was still subbing and working at SFW full time.

Hrmm... I thought he got a teaching job. Maybe I'm wrong, but even if he's subbing, he's still is busier than he used to be. Helping school with grading, functions, etc. is still alot of work.

How do you know they didn't?

I hate to break it to you, but in your effort to be combative, you're just sounding stupid.

Teachers 30 years ago didn't up upteen million "meetings" the board forces them to attend, or special training they have to go to on the correct way to hug a kid without arms or how to restrain an abusive student without touching them.......Nor did they have to answer 100s of emails from parents every day or practice monthly drills on what to do if someone is running around the school shooting everyone.

Teachers 30 years ago didn't have to deal with the crap teachers now and days do. Can't deny that.

:wah: They can laugh at it while on one of their many breaks or the 2 months they're off during the summer.
