Teachers 30 years ago didn't have to deal with the crap teachers now and days do. Can't deny that.

I agree completely. And I can never understand why people biatch about them getting an extended period of time off for summer break. A teacher became one by chosing their career path, getting degree'd, and accepting the responsibility of dealing with a large number of brats and their bratty parents day-in and day-out. The period of time off is often a selling point as to why they put up with it all. If that's what it takes to help someone to decide to take on the job... so be it.

Do you really not get the point that teachers are actually at work on all the "professional days" off your kids have and during the two-hour early dismissal...:confused:

I didn't mention the professional days. I said their breaks. Fall, christmas and spring and then comes summer. They do not work during those breaks.

I was shocked our first year here at how long the school year is. I have never been in a school district that has a week off for "spring break" like St. Mary's. I haven't check the whole Calvert calendar yet but I am sure their off the same amount of days almost. I thought PA schools were ridiculous with their half days every other Wed. I understand that the teachers need to attend training and have planning meetings. I'd rather they be prepared and up to date when teaching my kids. However, some of the days are not necessary. I get frustrated when trying to plan summer vacations and the kids aren't out of school until almost the 3rd week in June. Then they have to go back the 3rd week in August. Ugh!
