Egyptian Pagan Religion: Osiris is a savior-god who had been worshipped as far back as Neolithic times. "He was called Lord of Lords, King of Kings, God of Gods...the Resurrection and the Life, the Good shepherd...the god who 'made men and women be born again'" 5 Three wise men announced his birth. His followers ate cakes of wheat which symbolized his body. Many sayings associated with Osiris were taken over into the Bible. This included: 23rd Psalm: an appeal to Osiris as the good Shepherd to lead believers through the valley of the shadow of death and to green pastures and still waters
Lord's Prayer: "O amen, who art in heaven..."
Many parables attributed to Jesus.

Worship of Osiris, and celebration of his DEC-25 birth, were established throughout the Roman Empire by the end of the 1st century BCE.

And the list goes on and on..

The only that wasn't born on 25 Dec was Jeebus..
What makes all the stuff you dug up about Pagan Gods, etc., more believable than what is written in the Bible and the Birth of Jesus.

Does the fact that "Christmas" was originally a Pagan holiday incorporated into the Christian holidays make any difference?

No.

I'm fairly certain that Pagans do not, and never have, celebrated the birth, life or death of Christ, so I think it's a safe bet that "Christmas" was not a pagan holiday. I don't know much about pagan holidays, but I thought that their holiday was "yule" and had to do with honoring the winter solistice.

Yeah - Christians moved their Christmas celebration to the solstice, and adopted some of the more festive traditions of the pagans. But I don't see how that dilutes or invalidates the reason behind Christmas though.

So technically your not celebrating Christs Birth your Celebrating the Alignment of the Planets

Technically, we are celiebrating Christ's birth.

We're just not doing it on His actual birthday. I don't think it's the actual date which is important, but the event itself.

At my last job we celebrated Martin Luther King Jr's birthday the Friday after Thanksgiving.

Big whoop.

I'm celebrating my birthday 4 times a year now. January 16th, May 10th, August 7th, and November 17th.

Jesus was a man who fashioned himself after mythological gods. Nothing more, nothing less.

WOW, lot of similarity here.. ANOTHER pagan who's birth was celebrated on 25 December
WHO FREAKIN' CARES???

Don't call it "Christmas" if it pisses you off so much. Call it "Winter holiday" like the schools do. Call it whatever you want - but get off the people who celebrate Christ's birth on that particular day.

Elaine, did you ever get the book/s by Acharya S.?

If so, I would like to borrow it/them. I'll get my "Lamb" book back and let you borrow it if you like.

Why does it bother you so much what other people believe and celebrate? If you don't want to celebrate Christmas, DON'T! Call it whatever you please - dance a naked ritual around a fig tree for all I care.

There's no need for snide remarks and ridicule - and this goes for you, too, Slotted. If the thought of a Christian savior makes your head spin - well, great. Get pictures and share with the class.

ARRRRGGGGHHHH! :jameo: :jameo:

You could at least start me a birthday thread. check your calendar.

That's a good idea.

But I won't call it "your birthday" thread.

Instead what I'll do is to call them "generic holiday" threads. And on those days, what I will do is to make sure I ignore you as much as possible while I give well-wishing and other glad tidings to my friends.

Unfortunately I might get all pissed off when your name comes up during in these holiday threads and I will demand that you stop trying to force yourself on me during my holidays.

Yer welcome.
